Norfolk State's Gilbert Earn Top Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., November 10 – Norfolk State’s Gabrielle Gilbert has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced today. Coppin State’s Cherisse Atilano earned Rookie of the Week honors. Howard’s Leah Reeves was recognized as Setter of the Week while teammate Claire Simpson claimed Defensive Player of the Week accolades. 

Gilbert (NSU, Jr., OH, Indianapolis, Ind.) powered the Spartans to a 3–0 week, totaling 60 kills and averaging 5.0 per set while adding 23 digs, five blocks, and six service aces. She posted outings of 26, 15, and 19 kills across victories over Hampton, South Carolina State, and North Carolina Central. 

Atilano (CSU, Fr., OH, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) helped Coppin State to a 2–0 week, recording 24 kills and 28 digs while adding a block and three service aces. She posted a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs in a 5-set rally at Delaware State and contributed 13 kills and 16 digs in the win over UMES to help Coppin State clinch the regular season title. 

Reeves (HOW, Sr., S, Allen, Texas) guided Howard to a 2–0 week, averaging 12.7 assists per set and totaling 89 assists, 17 digs, and four aces. She posted a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs against North Carolina Central and added a season-high 55 assists in the win over South Carolina State. 

Simpson (HOW, Sr.., MB, Plainfield, Ill.) recorded a career-high 35 digs in the win over South Carolina State and followed with seven digs against North Carolina Central, helping the Bison to a 2-0 week. 

Other Top Performers

  • Ava Berry (NSU) recorded 13 blocks over three wins for the Spartans. 
  • ?Isabelle Brown (MSU) posted 58 assists on the weekend with 37 in the five set win over Delaware State and added 21 assists and two digs at UMES. 
  • Manuela Cripa Nasser (NCCU) totaled 70 assists on the weekend, also contributing seven digs across two contests. 
  • Kate-Linh Eden (UMES) posted 78 assists over the weekend while adding 10 digs, one kill, and a service ace. 
  • Daniela Ferreira (MSU) tallied 35 kills, 16 digs, and eight blocks on the week, including a double-double vs. DSU and a career-high seven blocks and 17 kills at UMES 
  • Jayda Hutchins (UMES) contributed 14 kills, 20 digs, five blocks, and two assists, including six kills and 11 digs in a five-set win over Morgan State. 
  • Alexys James (HOW) totaled 22 kills, 13 digs, three blocks, and three aces in a 2-0 week for the Bison. 
  • ?Jasmine Mataira (NSU) tallied 119 assists over three matches, averaging 9.92 per set, while adding five aces and 12 digs across the week. 
  • Rya McKinnon (HOW) produced 26 kills and 23 digs across two wins for the Bison. 
  • Karielys Melendez (UMES) posted a double-double at Coppin State with 13 digs and 11 kills and followed it with seven digs vs. Morgan State. 
  • Mary Nahinu (NSU) totaled 51 digs and four aces over three wins for the Spartans. 
  • Anjola Omolewa (UMES) recorded 20 kills on .318 hitting and 11 blocks on a 1-1 weekend for the Hawks. 
  • Azul Pilahg (CSU) recorded 61 assists and 15 digs on the weekend, including a double-double with 24 assists and 11 digs in a five-set win at Delaware State. 
  • Allyson Rouse (NCCU) contributed 16 kills, five blocks, and two aces in two matches for the Eagles. 
  • TaKenya Stafford (CSU) delivered back-to-back double-digit kill and dig performances, totaling 29 kills, 29 digs, and six blocks in two wins. 
  • Jada Williams (MSU) totaled 16 blocks, including a career-high 10 at UMES, while adding 18 kills and five digs to anchor Morgan State’s front line.
