Volleyball Rolls to Fourth-Straight Win With Sweep of South Carolina State

BALTIMORE – Behind a match-high 13 kills and four aces from TaKenya Stafford, Coppin State's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-13) victory against South Carolina State on Monday night at PEC Arena.  The Eagles have won four-straight and improved to 10-9 overall and 4-0 in the MEAC while the Bulldogs fell to 3-13 on the year and 0-4 in league play.
 
Stafford hit .357 on the night, committing just three errors on her 28 attempts, adding a pair of digs and blocks as well.  A redshirt senior from Los Angeles, Calif., Stafford's four aces were a career high.
 
Kayden Cupid added nine kills, followed by Cherisse Atilano with six, Deviana Walker with five, Ayanna Pharoah with four and Ivanna Luna with two. 
 
Setters Azul Pilahg (19), Andrea Cintron (nine) and Andrea Serrano combined for 33 assists to lead the Eagles offense to a .322 hitting percentage.  In the process, Pilahg moved into tenth on Coppin's all-time assist list with 728, passing Kareemah Hopkins (2020-21).
 
Coco Figueroa led all players with ten digs and now has 980 in her career in just two-plus seasons.
 
Ahzhi Coleman matched Stafford with a team-high two blocks and now has 179 career blocks which is just shy of fifth place on the CSU all-time list, held by Kandace Thomas (2011-14) and Miajavon Coleman (2018-22) with 185.
 
Coppin heads to Maryland Eastern Shore in a 6 pm start on Friday, October 10 in a battle of unbeaten teams in conference play.
