Maryland Eastern Shore’s Montes Earn Top Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., October 6 – Maryland Eastern Shore's Lilliana Montes has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore's Jayda Hutchins earned Rookie of the Week honors, Howard's Leah Reeves was recognized as Setter of the Week, and Maryland Eastern Shore's Valeria Matias was named Defensive Player of the Week. 

Montes (UMES, So., MB, Murrieta, Ca.) led the Hawks to a 2–0 week, recording 21 kills, five aces, five digs, and nine blocks. Against Norfolk State, she added 14 kills, six blocks, and three service aces. Montes averaged 4.0 kills and 1.7 blocks per set for the week. 

Hutchins (UMES, Fr., S, Henderson, Nev.) totaled 14 kills, 34 assists, seven service aces, 20 digs, and six blocks across two wins. She recorded 15 assists and 11 digs versus Norfolk State, then added 10 kills and 19 assists against Howard, marking her fourth consecutive double-double and finishing one dig shy of a triple-double. 

Reeves (HU, Sr., S, Allen, Texas) posted 89 assists over the weekend, including 45 in a single match against UMES. She also added five aces, 16 digs, and two blocks. 

Matias (UMES, Sr., L, Ponce, Puerto Rico) anchored the Hawks' defense with 32 digs over two matches, marking her 14th and 15th double-digit dig performances of the season and helping UMES to a 2–0 week. 

Other Top Performers 

  • Cherisse Atilano (CSU) notched a double-double with a match-high 15 kills on .324 hitting, adding 12 digs, two aces, and a block in a four-set win over North Carolina Central. 
  • Selah Brashea(MSU) recorded a career-high 13 kills on .400 hitting in a sweep of South Carolina State while also adding three digs and a solo block to help Morgan State complete a 2-0 week and earn its first three-match home winning streak since 2020. 
  • Isabelle Brown (MSU) helped Morgan State to a 2-0 week, averaging 8.1 assists and 1.7 digs while hitting .375. Brown tallied 36 assists, nine digs, three aces, three kills, and a block in a five-set win over NCCU, then added 29 assists, five digs, four kills, and an ace in a sweep of South Carolina State. 
  • Isis Castille (NSU) tallied 13 kills across two matches while adding four digs and four blocks. She recorded nine kills in a five-set loss to UMES and four kills in a three-set loss to Delaware State. 

  • Andrea Cintron (CSU) recorded 22 assists and seven  digs, while adding four kills and an ace in a four-set win over North Carolina Central. 

  • Kate-Linh Eden (UMES) tallied 37 assists along with four kills, six service aces, and seven blocks over two wins. 

  • Coco Figueroa (CSU) anchored the Eagles' defense with a match-high 23 digs, nine assists, and a kill in a four-set win over North Carolina Central.  

  • Gabrielle Gilbert (NSU) tallied 37 kills across two matches, hitting .327 at UMES and .250 against Delaware State, while adding five aces, five digs, and four blocks in a 0-2 week for the Spartans. 

  • Kamren Harper (NCCU) recorded 38 kills, 21 digs, and three blocks over two matches, highlighted by 23 kills and 12 digs in a five-set loss to Morgan State. 

  • Alexys James (HU) registered 26 kills, 10 digs, nine assists, and two blocks across 10 sets over the weekend, marking her fifth straight game with double-digit kills. 

  • Loren Johnson (NCCU) tallied 41 digs, three assists, and one block over three matches, highlighted by an 18-dig performance against Morgan State. 

  • Rya McKinnon (HU) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 34 kills, 26 digs, and three blocks across two matches, leading all players with 21 kills in the match against Maryland Eastern Shore as the Bisons went 1-1 on the week. 

  • Aaliyah Mitchell (DSU) totaled nine blocks, including seven block assists in a 1-1 week for the Hornets. 

  • Kaitlynn Robinson (HU) posted four solo blocks and seven block assists over the 1-1 weekend for the Bison. 

  • Allyson Rouse (NCCU) tallied 11 kills and six blocks across three matches last week, including eight kills and five blocks in a loss to Coppin State. 

  • Gerren Tomlin (DSU) led the Hornets with 14 kills and a .324 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of Norfolk State. 

  • Mya Wood (NSU) totaled 28 digs across two matches, adding six assists and an ace in a 0-2 week for the Spartans.
