In their last outing, South Carolina State earned a 22–16 victory over North Carolina A&T, powered by a balanced offensive effort that featured 144 rushing yards and 165 passing yards. The Bulldogs have utilized a two-quarterback system this season, and in the win over the Aggies, William Atkins IV threw for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Ryan Stubblefield added 64 yards through the air on 50-percent passing. The Howard Bison returns to Greene Stadium for the first time this season, hosting the Morgan State Bears in their Homecoming matchup. Both teams have faced offensive challenges this season, ranking near the bottom of the MEAC rankings in total offense. Nevertheless, this matchup is shaping up to be a defensive battle, as Howard leads the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 21.4 points per game, while Morgan State ranks second, holding opponents to just 25.0 points per contest. Morgan State enters the contest 3–4 overall following a dominant 44–6 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg. In that game, redshirt freshman Raymond Moore III was a standout with 173 rushing yards, but the Bears controlled the trenches with 360 rushing yards and five players eclipsing the 50-yard mark on the ground. Howard, the only MEAC team in action during Week 8, fell to Tennessee State 24–7. The Bison struggled to find rhythm offensively, totaling just 226 yards of offense in the loss. Howard looks to snap a three-game losing streak, while Morgan State aims to extend its winning streak to two games. This will mark the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Howard holding a 7–5 series advantage.
