BALTIMORE – In collaboration with the National Football League (NFL), Morgan State University and Wells Fargo, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) hosted the fourth annual MEAC Girls on the Gridiron Flag Football Clinic on Sunday, July 19, at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State in Baltimore.

Led by MEAC football student-athletes and coaches, the clinic introduced girls ages 12 and older to the fundamentals of flag football through skill stations, position-specific drills and team-building exercises. The event also officially kicked off the 2026 MEAC football season and served as a prelude to MEAC Football Media Day.

“This event continues to demonstrate the tremendous interest in girls and women’s flag football,” said MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills. “Over the past four years, we’ve watched this clinic grow alongside the sport itself. With the MEAC adding women’s flag football as a championship sport, today’s participants now have a pathway to compete at the collegiate level and potentially even in the Olympics. That possibility is incredibly exciting.”

At the conclusion of the event, the Girls on the Gridiron MVP Award was presented to Serenity Ellis in recognition of her outstanding performance throughout the day.

The MEAC recently announced the addition of women's flag football as a championship sport, beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. As an NCAA Emerging Sport, women's flag football is eligible to pursue NCAA championship status, with the potential for an inaugural NCAA championship as early as spring 2028. The sport is also set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
