MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards 

Coppin State’s Stafford Earn Top Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., October 13 – Coppin State's Takenya Stafford has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced today. Fellow Eagle Cherrisse Atilano earned Rookie of the Week honors. Howard's Leah Reeves was named Setter of the Week, while teammate Aziah Buckner was named Defensive Player of the Week. 

Stafford (CSU, Sr., OH, Los Angeles, Ca.) turned in a dominant week for the Eagles, posting 38 kills, 11 service aces, and 19 digs while helping Coppin State go 3–0. The redshirt senior delivered in the clutch, recording eight kills and four digs in the decisive fourth set against UMES while also adding a double-double in a sweep of Delaware State. 

Atilano (CSU, Fr., OH, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) recorded 27 kills on .436 hitting, along with 29 digs and four service aces, helping the Eagles go undefeated in a 3–0 week. The freshman outside hitter posted a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win at UMES. 

Reeves (HU, Sr., S, Allen, Texas) totaled 84 assists, 19 digs, four kills, three service aces, and a block over eight sets in a 2-0 week for the Bison, including a season-high 49 assists against NC Central. 

Buckner (HU, Gs., OH, Memphis, TN) had a standout weekend for the Bison, recording 23 kills, 20 digs, seven blocks, three service aces, and three assists across 10 sets. She notched a career-high five solo blocks against NC Central and added her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs versus SC State. 

Other Top Performers    
  • Pilahg Azul (CSU) averaged 6.1 assists per set while leading Coppin State to a 3–0 week. 
  • Isabelle Brown (MSU) posted 37 assists, nine digs, two aces, and a kill in a win over UMES. 
  • Isis Castille (NSU) totaled 13 kills, four digs, and four blocks over two matches for the Spartans. 
  • Ahzhi Coleman (CSU) moved into fifth place on CSU's all-time blocks list, surpassing her sister, Miajavon Coleman. The senior middle hitter tallied 10 total blocks for the week, including four each in wins over UMES and Delaware State. 
  • Kate-Linh Eden (UMES) distributed 37 assists, recorded six aces, and added four kills and a block over two matches 
  • Kiyah Felder (SCSU) totaled 32 kills and seven blocks, including 12 kills and four solo blocks in a sweep of Norfolk State.  
  • Daniela Ferreira (MSU) recorded 17 kills on .400 hitting, five aces, eight digs, and two blocks against UMES. 
  • Gabrielle Gilbert (NSU) notched 19 kills, five aces, and four total blocks over two matches, hitting .327 at UMES. 
  • Kamren Harper (NCCU) tallied 33 kills and 24 digs while recording back-to-back double-doubles in her last three matches. She powered NCCU with a 20-kill performance against Howard and a .300 hitting percentage in a sweep of Norfolk State. 
  • Jayda Hutchins (UMES) contributed 14 kills, 34 assists, seven aces, 20 digs, and six blocks. Hutchins recorded four consecutive double-doubles, nearly posting a triple-double across UMES' two wins. 
  • Alexys James (HU) totaled 42 assists, 17 kills, 12 digs, three blocks, and an ace, including a career-high 38 assists against UMBC. 
  • Arianna James (SCSU) distributed 38 assists and added 10 kills, 27 digs, and two aces in three matches. 
  • Neira Joldic (NCCU) tallied a career-high 20 digs in a five-set battle with Howard and added nine more in a sweep of Norfolk State, totaling 29 digs on the week. 
  • Jasmine Mataira (SCSU) totaled 36 set assists over two games while adding 12 digs and three kills. 
  • Valeria Matias (UMES) in the win over Howard, Matias recorded a team-high 19 digs. Matias leads UMES with 270 digs this season and notched her 15th double-digit dig performance of the year. 
  • Rya McKinnon (HU) posted back-to-back double-doubles, including 18 kills and 12 digs in a five-set win over NC Central. She totaled 41 kills, 32 digs, and two assists across three matches. 
  • Mary Nahinu (NSU) led the Spartans in digs at SC State with 15 and added eight more at NCCU, along with one kill and one assist. 
  • Allyson Rouse (NCCU) posted 13 kills, eight digs, and four blocks while hitting efficiently over two matches.  
  • Mele Taumoepeau (MSU) provided a spark from the service line with four aces, while adding 11 digs and two assists in Morgan State's 3–1 win over UMES. 
  • Gerren Tomlin (DSU) led Delaware State with 14 kills and a .324 hitting percentage in a sweep over Norfolk State, averaging 3.67 kills per set on the week. 
  • Mya Wood (NSU) contributed 28 digs and six assists across two matches, continuing to be a steady presence on the defensive end.
