MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 20, 2019—South Carolina State senior Tyrell Richard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s track Athlete of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today, while Norfolk State sophomore Kiara Grant was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Bethune-Cookman senior Dominic Harper earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman sophomore Monae Nichols was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Richard (Sr., Georgetown, S.C.) vaulted all the way up to second in the nation in the 400-meter dash, setting a new school record and personal best with a 45.39 at the South Carolina Indoor Open.
 
Grant (So., Kingston, Jamaica) won the 60-meter dash at the JDL Fast Track, tying the meet record with a 7.31. That time currently ranks second in the MEAC and 23rd in the nation.
 
Harper (Sr., Atlamonte Springs, Fla.) set the MEAC’s best mark in the pole vault at the South Carolina Indoor Open, leaping 4.56 meters (14 feet, 5 inches).
 
Nichols (So., Lakeland, Fla.) won the long jump at the South Carolina Indoor Open, setting a new conference-best mark at 6.02 meters (19 feet, 9 inches).
 
Other Top Performers
Deja Davis (B-CU)
ranks seventh in the MEAC in the women’s mile run after turning in a 5:12.32 this past weekend.
 
Daniel Kiptoo (B-CU) came in sixth in the mile run in South Carolina, running a 4:22.33.
 
Joseph Amoah (CSU) ran a season-best 20.88 in the 200-meter dash in South Carolina.
 
Tatiana Ogundeko (CSU) ran a school-record 5:07.67 in the mile run at the South Carolina Indoor Open.
 
Annastacia Barham (MSU) won the 400-meter dash and came in second in the 60-meter dash at the Penn State Tune-Up.
 
Diamond Moore (MSU) was third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump at the Penn State Tune-Up.
 
Trequan Barnes (NSU) ran a 47.33 in the 400-meter dash, setting a new meet record at the JDL Fast Track.
 
Bobby Price (NSU) made his indoor debut at the JDL Fast Track, winning the long jump with a mark of 7.15 meters (23 feet, 5.5 inches).
