MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Honors

Norfolk, Va., Apr. 22, 2026-- Howard junior Yahnari Lyons was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Morgan State senior Brylan Carter earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.   
 
Lyons (Jr., Hampton, Ga.) claimed gold in the 200 meters at the Tom Jones Memorial with a MEAC-best time of 22.34, ranking second nationally. 
 
Carter (Sr., Altadena, Calif.) placed second in the hammer throw with a MEAC-best 50.63 meters, won the javelin with a mark of 36.61 meters, which ranks second in the MEAC, and finished second in the discus with a throw of 42.37 meters at the Legacy Track Invitational. 

Other Top Performers 
  • Kelis Armstrong (HOW) finished fourth in the triple jump at the Tom Jones Memorial with a MEAC-best mark of 12.75 meters. 
  • Kayla Johnson (NCCU) won the 800 meters at the Aggie Invitational with a personal-best time of 2:08.09, ranking third in the MEAC this season. 
  • Naomi Johnson (SCSU) won the long jump with a mark of 5.75 meters at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic. 
  • Benidicta Kwartemaa (CSU) won the 100 meters at the Morgan State Legacy in 11.62. 
  • Tia Lucas (NCCU) took second in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 1.73 meters a mark that ranks first in the MEAC this season. 
  • Miriam Okwudibonye (DSU) placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.86. 
  • Brooklyn Robinson (NSU) took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.16. 
  • Essence Shaw (NSU) placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.67 meters. 
  • Nia Singleton (SCSU) placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.06 at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic.
