SCSU FRESHMEN LEAD SC STATE AGAIN AT TRYON WINTER TRACK CLASSIC

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State indoor track and field teams won three events and had a total of twelve (12) Top 5 finishes at the two-day (Jan. 16-17) Tryon Winter Track Classic and Combined Events at Mill Springs, NC Friday and Saturday.

Freshmen led the way for Coach Donald Cooper’s team for a second straight outing, posting seven of the top twelve showings, including two of three first places. Freshman Naomi Johnson won the women’s long jump (5.72m, 18-9.25 ft.), while freshman Kameron James captured the men’s high jump (2.00m, 6-6.75 ft.). The third winning mark was produced by junior Jonathan Williams in the 60m hurdles (8.18).

Other freshman performers with top five finishes in the women’s division were Tresta Miller, fourth in the 200 meters (25.35); Kaleese Burrell, fifth in the shot put (12.16m, 39-10.75 ft.); Tajhana South, fifth in the Pentathlon (3135 pts.); and Angelina Stabile, fifth in the pole vault (3.30m, 10-10 ft.). Cameron Davis also had a top five showing in the men’s competition, finishing second in the 60m hurdles (8.20).

Also producing top five finishes among male performers were senior Terryn Patterson-Bryant, second in the 60 meters (6.91); sophomore Alexander Hollimon, third in the 60m hurdles (8.33); senior Christian Washington, fourth in the Heptathlon (4389 pts.), and Kennedy Spears in the women’s division, fifth in the high jump (1.58m, 5-2.25 ft.).
