NORFOLK, Va. --- Six members of the Norfolk State men's track and field team earned spots on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team announced by the organization.
Sprinters Tafari Bishop, Kendrick Winfield, Premier Wynn, and Donovan Terry joined jumpers Jayden Gordon and Kristopher Stephens on the list.
To qualify for individual All-Academic honors, student-athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and either rank in the top 96 nationally in an indoor event or advance to at least the NCAA Regional level in an outdoor event.
Bishop, an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.51 GPA, reached the NCAA Outdoor East Regional quarterfinals in the 400 meters, placing 20th with a time of 50.97. He also helped the 4x400-meter relay team break both the indoor and outdoor school records.
Winfield, an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.44 GPA, earned USTFCCCA All-America Second Team honors at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, placing 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 20.87. He also won the MEAC Indoor title in the 200 meters, setting a school record with a time of 20.66.
Wynn, a mass communications and general broadcast major with a 3.48 GPA, helped the 4x400-meter relay team set a new indoor school record (3:07.75) at the East Coast Invitational. He also qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 400 meters during the outdoor season.
Terry, a fine arts and graphic design major with a 3.62 GPA, competed at the NCAA East Regional as part of the 4x400-meter relay team, which placed 22nd in 3:08.36. Earlier in the outdoor season, he contributed to a new school record in the relay at the Penn Relays with a time of 3:05.07.
Gordon, an electrical and electronics engineering major with a 3.27 GPA, won the MEAC Outdoor Championship in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 10.25 inches. He later advanced to the NCAA East Regional, where he jumped 47 feet, 9 inches in the quarterfinals.
Stephens, a computer science and cybersecurity major with a 3.43 GPA, also competed in the triple jump at the NCAA East Regional, placing 33rd with a mark of 48 feet, 5.5 inches. He earned the bronze medal in the event at the MEAC Championships with a jump of 50 feet, 6.75 inches.
