MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., May 7, 2025 — Howard graduate student Kailei Collins was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while North Carolina Central junior Tia Lucas and Delaware State’s freshman Valerie Ashamu earned Co-Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Collins (Gr., Houston, TX.) clocked a MEAC best time of 23.10 in the 200m dash to place second at the Aggie Classic, ranking 39th nationally.

Lucas (Jr., James Island, S.C.) cleared a personal best height of 1.71 meters to finish second in the women’s high jump at the Duke Twilight. Her performance ties her for first in the MEAC rankings and places her 10th in the Southeast.

Ashamu (Fr., Elkridge, MD.) registered a 1.71-meter mark in the high jump, earning fifth place at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational. She sits tied for first in DSU history and ties Lucas for the best leap in the MEAC this season.

Other Top Performers
· Nyree Baccus (DSU) finished third in the women’s 400m dash with a personal record of 53.42, the second-best time in the MEAC.
· Temi Banwo (HU) finished sixth in the discus at the Aggie Classic with a throw of 47.08 meters, ranking second in the MEAC this season.
· Sierra Passee (DSU) clocked a 14.37 time to place fourth in the 100m hurdles at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational.
· Kennedy Spears (SCSU) placed seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters at the UNF East Coast Relays.
· TyQwasia Williams (SCSU) clocked a personal best time of 59.59 second in the 400m hurdles to take fifth at the UNF East Coast Relays.
