NORFOLK, Va., May 16, 2025 – Day two of the 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships saw 10 gold medals awarded at William “Dick” Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University. At the end of Friday’s action, host Norfolk State leads both team standings—84 points on the men’s side and 81 points for the women.
Morgan State’s Tia Jackson got the day started with a win in the women’s long jump, claiming the first gold medal of the day with a mark of 6.02 meters.
Howard University excelled in the throws and jumps, highlighted by Kendra Ezeama’s first-place finish in the women’s shot put (15.42m) and Erin Hatcher’s victory in the women’s hammer throw (60.72m). Kyle Fisher added another gold for the Bison in the men’s long jump, soaring to 7.84 meters.
North Carolina Central’s Gabriel Urraca took gold in the men’s shot put with a distance of 17.61 meters, while Norfolk State’s Troy McWilliams claimed the top spot in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 52.34 meters.
Howard’s strength in multis continued as the Bison swept the top two spots in the women’s heptathlon. Jasmyn Hunter earned gold with 4,332 points, followed by teammate Jasmen Walker with 4,305 points.
In the men’s decathlon, Coppin State’s Andrew Betton secured the gold medal with 6,697 points breaking a 20-year old record (6,693) in the event set by Alan Mitchell of Morgan State in 2005. South Carolina State’s Michael Hopkins took silver, finishing with 6,458 points.
On the track, Norfolk State’s Mercyline Kimaiyo captured her second title of the championships, winning the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:59.16. Delaware State’s Marian Drazan claimed gold in the men’s steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:16.61.
