Norfolk State Wins 2025 MEAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

NORFOLK, Va., May 17, 2025 – For the fourth consecutive season, the Norfolk State University Spartans captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, finishing with 227 points, 115.5 points ahead of co-runners-up Howard University and Coppin State University who tallied 111.5 points each. 

RESULTS

Norfolk State's Kenneth Giles was named Outstanding Coach of the Meet, while Spartan rookie Lewis Too earned Outstanding Runner of the Meet honors.  

South Carolina State's Michael Hopkins and North Carolina Central's Matthew Swepson were recognized as Co-Outstanding Male Field Athletes of the Meet. 

The Spartans dominated the weekend with six gold medals and a total of 19 podium finishes on the men's side. 

Gidion Sigei led the charge in distance events, claiming gold in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:36.11. Teammates Lewis Too (31:24.48) and Brian Rotich (31:53.65) completed a clean sweep of the podium. 

Troy McWilliams secured first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.34 meters, and Jayden Gordon earned gold in the triple jump at 15.50 meters. 

Norfolk State continued its medal haul on the track, taking gold and silver in the 400-meter dash as Premier Wynn (46.53) edged teammate Kendrick Winfield (46.69). Winfield also captured the 200-meter title in 20.70 seconds. 

In the 5,000-meter run, Sigei, Victor Jumo, and Too finished 1-2-3. Sigei clocked in at 15:33.04, while Jumo (15:33.04) narrowly outpaced Too (15:33.69) in a photo finish. 

The championship concluded with a statement performance in the men's 4x400-meter relay, where the Spartans held off Howard and Coppin State to secure gold in 3:09.34.
