NORFOLK, Va., Apr. 30, 2025 — Norfolk State senior Gidion Sigei was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while
Delaware State junior Ja’Mari Manson earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Sigei (Sr., Kericho, Kenya) broke both the MEAC and NSU records in the 10,000m at the Penn Relays with a time of 29:07.85, finishing 2nd overall. Both records were previously set by Sigei last season.
Manson (Fr., Bloomfield, Conn.) captured first place in the high jump at the prestigious Penn Relays with a leap of 2.15 meters, setting a new DSU school record. His mark ranks in the top 25 nationally and currently stands as the best in the MEAC this season.
Other Top Performers
· Robert Carter Jr. (SCSU) won both the javelin with a throw of 55.16 meters and the shot put with a mark of 14.58 meters at the UCF Knights Invitational.
· Marian Drazan (DSU) finished 12th in the 3000m steeplechase at the Penn Relays with a time of 8:46.52, breaking the DSU school record and moving into second in the MEAC record book.
· Jayden Gordon (NSU) delivered a second-place finish in the triple jump at the Penn Relays with a mark of 14.68 meters.
· Delano Lawrence (UMES) placed sixth in the discus at the Penn Relays with a season-best throw of 55.62 meters
· Theodore Skinner (NCCU) tied his personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 2.10m to place second at the Penn Relays. His performance ranks him sixth in the NCAA Division I Southeast Region.
· Isaiah Vertus (SCSU) clocked a season-best 46.60 in the 400 meters to secure fifth place at the UCF Knights Invite.
