MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Apr. 16, 2025 — Howard graduate student Ariana Smith was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week while Bison teammate Temi Banwo earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.   

Smith (Gr., Pennsville, N.J.) placed second in the 400m hurdles at the Duke Invitational with a time of 57.14. Smith’s performance is the best MEAC time this season and ranks her 14th nationally in the event. 

Banwo (Jr., Allen, Texas) placed sixth in the shot put at the Duke Invitational, recording a MEAC-best throw of 13.51 meters. 

   Other Top Performers  
  • Leanna Lewis (NSU) captured first place in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:06.58. She also helped NSU secure a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:41.89 at the Duke Invitational. 
  • Leslie Young (NSU) competing in three throwing events at the Duke Invitational, Young placed 16th in javelin (36.39m), 18th in discus (39.73m), and 24th in hammer (49.23m).  
  • Tia Lucas (NCCU) earned her second victory of the outdoor season claiming gold in the women’s Group B high jump at the Duke Invitational clearing a height of 1.66m. 
  • Kennedy Spears (SCSU) claimed first place in the women’s high jump at the Gamecock Invitational with a winning leap of 1.60m.
