NORFOLK, Va. - Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is proud to announce that Commissioner Sonja Stills has been honored with a resolution from THE MOLES. This recognition underscores Commissioner Stills’ contributions to the collegiate sports field and her commitment to excellence in HBCU development.
THE MOLES is a national organization with origins in Norfolk, Va., dating back to the 1950’s when four women met for an evening of fellowship and fun. From the first meeting, the chapter blossomed to include 14 women as the original charter members.
THE MOLES organization has grown to include 32 chapters ranging from New York to Florida and as far west as Texas, with a membership of nearly 1,000 predominantly African American professional women. Members contribute through donations and volunteerism, and the organization awards two annual scholarships: the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship and the Celestine Diggs Porter Scholarship.
“We are about fun!,” said Dr. Wanda Brockington. “However, we do offer scholarships for high school students, and we present resolutions for people who have done extraordinary things in the community.”
“I am truly honored to receive this resolution from THE MOLES,” said Commissioner Stills. “The work that you do with the scholarships for high school students is exceptional. It is imperative that we give back to our communities as that is where our foundations begin. The MEAC wants to be a vehicle to amplify the donations that provides opportunities for students.”
THE MOLES ladies share a common bond as exemplified in their motto: “Enjoy Yourself; It’s Later Than You Think!”
