MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 31, 2025 -- North Carolina Central freshman Zion Amadi was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. South Carolina State junior Michael Hopkins was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week.    

Amadi (Fr., Burlington, N.C.) competed in three events on Sunday, winning both individual races. In the 200m, Amadi ran a 22.11 time and in the 400m he finished with a time of 50.01, both personal records. As a member of the 4x400, Amadi helped NCCU place second with a time of 3:24.46. 

Hopkins (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) claimed gold in the heptathlon at the RADD College Invitational, scoring 4791 points. In the heptathlon, Hopkins finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.00, 10th in the long jump with a distance of 5.87 meters , 11th in the shot put with a throw of 9.87 meters , third in the high jump with a leap of 1.77 meters , fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.90, first in the pole vault clearing 4.75 meters and completed the 1000m in 2:59.66. 

Other Top Performers

  • Zachary Hawkins (HU) earned bronze in the 60m hurdles at the Penn 10 Elite with a time of 7.90. 

  • Sean Wray (HU) finished fourth in the long jump at the Penn 10 Elite with a jump of 7.34m, ranking second in the MEAC. 

  • Julian Williams (NCCU) placed third in the shot put at the JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational with a throw of 15.04m, setting a personal best. 

  • Javon Brooks (SCSU) claimed first place in the 300 meters at the RADD College Invitational/Multis with a time of 34.21.
