MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 22, 2025 -- Howard graduate student Goba Dan-Princewell was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. North Carolina Central junior Malcolm Forbes was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week.   

Dan-Princewell (Gr., Houston, Texas) placed second in the 200-meter dash at the Corky Classic with a MEAC-best time of 21.18, ranking 30th nationally. Dan-Princewell went to the semifinal round of the 60-meter dash setting a new school record with a time of 6.73, which ranks second in the conference. 

Forbes (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) secured a third-place finish in the men's triple jump at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge with a mark of 14.12m, while also placing 13th in the long jump with a 6.39m leap. 

Other Top Performers 

  • Solomon Hammond (CSU) won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 60-meter dash at the KPMG HBCU Showcase, with times of 21.25 and 6.76, respectively, ranking second in the MEAC for the 200m. 
  • Andrew Betton (CSU) cleared 3.65 meters to place 7th in the men's pole vault at the KPMG HBCU showcase.
  • Marian Drazan (DSU) was the top college finisher in the 3000m run with a school record time of 8:28.68. His mark ranks second fastest in the MEAC Conference this season.
  • Christopher Johnson (DSU) won the shot put with a mark of 16.54 meters setting a DSU program record placing him first in the MEAC standings this season.
  • Malachi Aiken (UMES) won his first event of the indoor season with a mark of 15.46m at the HBCU Showcase in New York City.
  • Caleb Mincey (MSU) placed first in the 800m dash as he ran a personal best time of 1:52.25.
  • Deshaun Johnson (NCCU) earned silver in the men's 300m at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge with a time of 35.30, while also competing in the 60m and 4x400m relays. 
  • Gidion Sigei (NSU) secured first place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:31.18 and finished second in the mile with a time of 4:19.69. 
  • Isaac Haywood (NSU) earned second place in the triple jump with a leap of15.28 meter and third in the long jump with a leap of 7.18 meters for the Spartans
