Women's Cross-Country Recap, August 31

NORFOLK, Va., August 31, 2024 – Opening weekend of the 2024 women’s cross-country season continued with Norfolk State, Delaware State, and Maryland Eastern Shore competing at the annual Maryland Eastern Shore Opener.
 
Norfolk State won the event while Delaware State secured a third-place finish and Maryland Eastern Shore finished fourth place. 
 
The Norfolk State Women's cross-country team registered a 1-2-3-4 finish to win the Maryland Eastern Shore Opener. 

Sophomore Yvone Sandui won the event, posting a time of 11:53.70. Teammate Mercyline Kimaiyo placed second (12:03.90), while sophomore took third (12:11.30). Koech took third (12:11.30).
 
The Delaware State Hornets finished third as a team with 74 points. Leilani Gibson clinched a top 10 finish with a final time of 13.59.55 placing ninth in the race. 
 
 Sabreeya Travis placed 13th with a final time of 17:18.59 while Malya Milstead placed 15th in the Hornets season opener with a time of 15:10.12. 
 
The host Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore finished in 4th place, with 76 points. Shenell Sims placed in the top ten with an eighth-place finish crossing the line with a time of 13:38.05. Teammate McKenzie Alibey placed 14th in the race, clocking a 14:53.49 time.
