NORFOLK, Va., August 31, 2024 – Opening weekend of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 2024 men’s cross-country season continued with the annual Maryland Eastern Shore Opener, featuring Norfolk State, Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore as the hosts of the event.
The Norfolk State Spartans, the defending MEAC champions, took first place at the Maryland Eastern Shore Opener.
Norfolk State had 1-2-3-4 finish to win the event with 25 team points.
Raphael Kitur won the meet by posting a time of 15:44.80. Teammate Gidion Sigei took second just seconds after with a time of 15:50.87.
Senior Brian Rotich finished third, completing the course in 15:51.73 while Victor Jumo took fourth, clocking in at 15:52.20. Basil Koech (17:42.52) rounded out the Spartans' five scores, placing 15th.
The Delaware State Hornets took third place in the event with 56 team points. Marian Drazan led his team in a fifth-place overall finish, clocking a 15:54.12 time. Hornet teammate Johnathen Drew secured seventh place, with a time of 16:49.92.
Maryland Eastern Shore placed fourth overall, led by Jalen Ridgeway who placed 11
th in a time of 17:07.77. Bryce Ayers crossed the line shortly after to secure 12
th place with a 17:08.30 finish.
