BAHAMAS – Anchoring Ghana's 4x100m Relay to a win in their heat at the World Athletics Relays on Sunday night, former Coppin State sprinter
Joseph Amoah and the relay team will represent their country at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games which will be held July 26 to August 11. With the win in a season-best 38.29, Ghana automatically qualified for the Olympics.
The relay team was made up of
Ibrahim Fuseini,
Isaac Botsio,
Benjamin Azamati, and Amoah who pulled away from Nigeria (38.57) on the anchor leg. Nigeria also automatically qualified for the Paris Olympics with a top two finish in the heat.
A native of Accra, Ghana, Amoah will make his second appearance in the Olympics after competing in both the 4x100m Relay and 200m dash at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Amoah recently took the gold at the African Games in the 200m dash (20.70) while leading the 4x100m Relay to a second-place finish in 38.43.
Teams that are now qualified for the 4x100m Relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics include: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Great Britain, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Africa, United States
Amoah holds personal records of 9.94 in the 100m dash and 20.08 in the 200m dash. He was on Ghana's 4x100m Relay that clocked a national record 38.08 at the Tokyo Olympics, as well as the relay with former CSU sprinter Joseph Manu that ran a 38.07 at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Amoah was a seven-time NCAA All-American during his collegiate career at Coppin State and still holds school-records in the 100m dash (10.00) and 200m dash (20.08) along with the 4x100m Relay (39.30), 4x200m Relay (1:24.08) and 4x400m Relay (3:06.58).
