LEXINGTON, Ky., May 24, 2024 --- Day three of action wrapped up at the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
Samuel Bennett from Howard advances to the NCAA National Meet in Eugene, Oregon, after a second-place finish in heat two of the men’s 110m hurdles, posting a time of 13.52. Bennett finished sixth overall in the event.
Fellow Bison, Noah Langford, also advances to Eugene claiming the last available spot in the regional meet in the men's 400m hurdles. His time of 50-55 seconds, a personal best, sends Langford on to the national race. Premier Wynn (NSU) finished the 400m hurdle race in 53.75 seconds.
Malachi Aiken from Maryland Eastern Shore qualified in the men’s triple jump with a personal best 15.77m leap and will advance to the NCAA National Meet. Aiken ranked 11th with his mark.
Issac Haywood of Norfolk State finished in the top-20 leaping 15.63m in the men’s triple jump. The Bison’s Chase Drewery and Kyle Fisher finished inside the top-30 in the triple jump, with Drewery leaping 15.40m while Fisher jumped 15.32m.
Coppin State’s Solomon Hammond was one-one hundredth (.01) of a second shy of qualifying for nationals in the 100m dash after a 10.16 finish in the quarterfinals. Norfolk State’s Kai Cole also competed in the men's 100m dash clocking a 10.24 time.
Teams from Coppin State and Howard took to the track in the men’s 4x100 relay. Coppin State’s Solomon Hammond, Noxroy Wright, Carl Drakes, and Cole Slaughterbeck teamed up finishing with a time of 39.81, while Howard’s ?Otto Liang, Ja'Leak Perry, Goba Dan-Princewill and Adam Musgrove teamed up for a 39.90 finish.
South Carolina State’s 4X400 relay team posted a time of 3:07.24 in a top 20 finish, as Norfolk State’s 4x400m relay team finished the race in 3:07.64 ranking 21st overall.
North Carolina Central’s Lamont Victoria finished 40th in the men’s high jump clearing a height of 2.04m.
Dexter Ratliff from South Carolina State threw 51.57m in the men’s discus event, finishing 36th.
The Regional meet will conclude tomorrow, May 25, with the women’s quarterfinal events.
