(Dec. 7, 2024)--Morgan State began the 2024-25 indoor track and field season with a trip to Staten Island to compete in the FastTrack Season Opener on Thursday, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Lady Bears would finish the meet with 20 top-10 finishes, including four individual champions. Graduate student Tia Jackson led the way with two individual titles, placing first in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.77 seconds and claiming the long jump title with a leap of 5.95 meters. Makenzie Harris ran a time of 8.97 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles, while Hemetii Apet won the triple jump with a mark of 11.20 meters. Other notable performances on the track came in the 60-meter dash, as Morgan State would claim the top four spots. Makenzie Jones ran a time of 7.80 to place second behind Jackson. Jatavia Robinson finished third with a time of 7.82 and Lailah King (7.83) placed fourth. Harris would come in eighth, crossing the line in 8.02 seconds. Jones would also place third in the 200-meter dash, finishing in a time of 25.87. Robinson placed fifth (25.94) and King finished ninth in 26.14 seconds. The Lady Bears had two top-five finishers in the 400-meter dash with Victoria Francis placing second in a time of 59.08 seconds, while Stewart placed fifth in a time of 1:01.33. Denisha McLaurin finished the 60-meter hurdled in a time of 9.10 seconds to place third. In the field events, Keira Stewart placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters, while Deborah Adekayode jumped 5.28 meters to come in fifth. TyTiana Grandy finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters. Cailyn Johnson placed fifth in the shot put, following her toss of 10.72 meters and also finished ninth in the weight throw after recording a throw of 12.17 meters.
