Final Results
NORFOLK, Va., May 11, 2023 – Howard University won the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women’s outdoor track & field championship on Thursday after turning in a dominant performance at Norfolk State University’s Dick Price Stadium.
The Bison won their second straight outdoor title and third overall. Howard also completed the season sweep (cross country, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field).
Howard tallied 241.5 points, well clear of second-place Morgan State with 138 points. Norfolk State (102.5), Delaware State (92.5) and Coppin State (88) rounded out the top five of the team standings.
David Oliver repeated as the meet’s Outstanding Coach. Norfolk State’s Mercyline Kimaiyo, who earned three gold medals and one silver during the meet, earned Outstanding Runner honors, while the Spartans’ Leslie Young repeated as Outstanding Field Performer.
Howard won seven gold medals on Thursday alone, highlighted by Tiffani Rae Pittman taking gold in both the 100 and 200 meters. She ran 11.58 in taking the 100 and 23.39 in winning the 200. The Bison finished 1-2 in the 100, with Darci Khan coming in second in 11.60.
Khan also won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.15; teammate Kaya-Rae Dunbar was second with a 13.48.
The Bison also swept the relay races, taking the 4x100-meter relay in 44.80 and the 4x400 in 3:33.86.
Melanie White gave the Bison a gold medal in the 1,500 meters, edging Kimaiyo and recording a 4:35.18, and Jessica Wright won the 400-meter hurdles after running a 57.23 to lead a Bison sweep of the podium (Aniya Woodruff was second and Cathrina Morris was third).
Kimaiyo won the 5,000 meters on Thursday with an 18:21.94, adding a third gold medal to the two she already had from this meet (she won the 10,000 meters on Tuesday and the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Wednesday).
North Carolina Central won two gold medals on Thursday, with Joidon Boddie taking the triple jump at 12.52 meters (41 feet, 1 inch) and Laila Jackson winning the 800 meters in 2:11.12.
Delaware State’s Annalise Bond followed up her MEAC indoor pole vault title with an outdoor gold medal, clearing 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5.75 inches).
Young won the javelin with a distance of 39.67 meters (130 feet, 2 inches), while Coppin State’s Latifa Ali ran a 52.99 to win the 400 meters – leading an Eagles sweep of the podium, as Kimani Alphonse was second and Shenelle Tomlinson was third.
The top three finishers in each event earned All-MEAC honors.
