NORFOLK, Va., April 26, 2023—Norfolk State senior Kai Cole was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, and Howard University senior Melanie White and Norfolk State sophomore Mercyline Kimaiyo were selected as Women’s Track Co-Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced today. Delaware State junior Emperor Campbell was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Delaware State sophomore Annalise Bond earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Cole (Sr., Alexandria, Va.) won the men’s 200 meters at the Virginia Challenge in a stacked field, turning in a 20.98 to become the only runner in the event to break the 21-second mark.
White (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) won the women’s 1,500 meters at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, setting a new MEAC-best time with a 4:36.54.
Kimaiyo (So., Kaptagat, Kenya) was strong in the women’s 5,000 meters at the Virginia Challenge, breaking the program record and setting a new MEAC benchmark for the season with a time of 17:14.49.
Campbell (Jr., Washington, D.C.) won the men’s discus throw at the Salisbury Eastern Shore Challenge, setting the MEAC’s best mark in the event so far this season with a distance of 48.46 meters (159 feet).
Bond (So., Shamokin Dam, Pa.) won her second straight women’s pole vault title at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, clearing 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11.75 inches).

James Bell (Coppin State) leaped 6.83 meters to come in sixth in the men’s long jump at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.
Solomon Hammond (Coppin State) was second in the men’s 200 meters at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, running a 21.27.
Halutie Hor (Coppin State) won the women’s 100 meters at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, turning in an 11.47, while coming in third in the 200 meters at 23.93.
Lakendra Harpe (Delaware State) was fourth in the women’s 400 meters at the Salisbury Eastern Shore Challenge, running a 55.59.
Devin Smith (Delaware State) won the men’s 800 meters (1:55.76) and 1,500 meters (4:03.64) at the Salisbury Eastern Shore Challenge.
Ezra Monteiro (Howard) was second in the men’s hammer throw at the Hopkins-Loyola Invite, setting a MEAC-best mark with a distance of 51.10 meters.
John Purvis (Morgan State) won the men’s shot put at the Morgan State Legacy Meet with a mark of 16.36 meters.
Isaac Haywood (Norfolk State) was seventh in the men’s triple jump at the Virginia Challenge with a MEAC-best mark of 15.31 meters.
Jada Banks (South Carolina State) ran a 5:09.98 in the women’s 1,500 meters at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Dexter Ratliff (South Carolina State) tossed the discus 47.76 meters to come in 10th at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Barrington Walker (South Carolina State) ran a personal-best 55.50 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
