Howard Women Post Three Victories at Morgan State Legacy

BALTIMORE, Md. -- 
Howard University women's track & field scored three victories in Baltimore, competing in the annual Morgan Legacy, hosted by Morgan State, and the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational, co-hosted by Johns Hopkins and Loyola (Md.).
 
Howard recorded all three wins at Morgan State.
 
Senior Melanie White won the 1500-meter run with a 4:36.54 mark. Teammate sophomore Camille Egbula took third place, clocking in at 4:45.67.
 
Second-year Bison Joslyn Crosby claimed gold in the 5000-meter run, producing a 18:57.00 time. Senior Breanna McDonald also competed and finished behind Crosby (18:58.21).

Wyatt, Hor Win Events for Coppin at Morgan State Legacy

BALTIMORE, Md. -- 
Halutie Hor and Jahmei Wyatt won events as the Coppin State women's track & field team competed at the Morgan State Legacy on Saturday at Hughes Stadium.
 
A junior from Kumasi, Ghana, Hor took gold in the 100-meter dash in a person-record 11.47 while taking third in the 200-meter dash in 23.93, which is also a personal best. Fellow Ghanaian Gifty Oku finished just behind Hor in both events, finishing sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.94) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.30).
 
Clocking a 2:13.82 in the 800-meter run, Wyatt cruised to a victory in the event while taking second in the 1,500-meter run in a personal record 4:41.63.

Purvis, 4x100 Lead Bears at Morgan State Legacy
 
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Junior standout John Purvis of Morgan State men's track and field program notched first place in the shot put on Saturday, which highlighted the Bears performances at the annual Morgan State Legacy Track Meet at Hughes Stadium.

The Bears finished the meet with nine top 10 finishes.

It was a special day for Morgan State, who honored its senior class prior to the start of the 800-meter dash.

NSU's Kimaiyo Makes History at Virginia Challenge
 
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Mercyline Kimaiyo shattered a 13-year-old school record on Friday, a historic performance to lead the Spartans at the Virginia Challenge.  

Kimaiyo completed the 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 14.49 seconds, the best mark in that event of her collegiate career. The time emphatically beat the previous outdoor school record set by Jennifer Chichester (18:04.52) in 2010 by 50.03 seconds.  

Kimaiyo's mark ranks second in MEAC history, just under eight seconds from the conference record. Finishing seventh on Saturday in a field of talented competition, Kimaiyo now holds three school records in just her first year at Norfolk State: 5,000 meters (indoor), 10,000 meters (outdoor), and 5,000 meters (outdoor).

N.C. Central Wins Three Events at Morgan State Legacy
 
BALTIMORE, Md. -- North Carolina Central captured three event victories and two runner-up performances during the Morgan State University Legacy track and field meet on Saturday in Baltimore.

NCCU junior Joidon Boddie, the 2023 MEAC indoor triple jump champion, won her second women's triple jump event of the outdoor season with a mark of 12.26 meters.

Junior Brenden Finger earned his first career triumph in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters, while senior Ashton Drake accomplished the first event victory of his collegiate track and field career by recording a time of 10:32.71 in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.

S.C. State Records Several Season Bests
 
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The South Carolina State track & field teams recorded several season-best performances and established one personal record at the recent Georgia Tech Invitational.

Recording season-best performances for head coach Donald Cooper's teams were Jada Banks in the women's 1,500 meters (5:09.92); Andrew Latimer in the men's 1,500 meters (4:11.76); Sexter Ratliff in the discus (147.76 meters, 156-8 ft.), the third-best throw in the MEAC this season; and the women's 4x100-meter relay team (Sydney Cooper, Angelica Frederick, Cameran Gist and Maya Smith), with a time of 47.52.

Delaware State Has Strong Weekend in Two Separate Meets
 
BALTIMORE, Md. / SALISBURY, Md. -- The Delaware State track & field teams took part in two different meets on Saturday with one group competing at the Morgan State Legacy Meet hosted by Morgan State University while another competed at the Eastern Shore Challenge hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday. 
 
The Hornets increased both the number of athletes who won individual events as well as total number of events won between these two meets as compared to the Gallaudet Bison Classic from two weekends ago.
 
Tayshaun Chisholm and Peter Kamanu both claimed their third straight induvial event wins at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. Chisholm won the 110-meter hurdles with a final time of 13.84 seconds, while Kamanu claimed first place in the pole vault after topping out a height of 4.50 meters.
