MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 12, 2023Howard University senior Ayoade Adebiyi was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, and Howard University junior Kaya-Rae Dunbar was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Coppin State senior Jeff Hammond was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Delaware State sophomore Annalise Bond earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
Adebiyi (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a 9:53.14, best in the MEAC and the only sub-10 minute time in the conference, in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bison Classic to win the gold medal.
 
Dunbar (Jr., Burtonsville, Md.) won the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Bison Classic, clocking in at a MEAC-best 13.52 – which currently ranks 47th in the nation.
 
Hammond (Sr., Kumasi, Ghana) set a new program record in winning the men’s long jump at the South Florida Invitational, leaping a personal-best 7.67 meters (25 feet, 2 inches) to lead the MEAC and rank 28th in the nation.
 
Bond (So., Shamokin Dam, Pa.) set a new season and MEAC best in the women’s pole vault at the Bison Classic, winning the gold medal after clearing 3.44 meters (11 feet, 3.5 inches).
 
Other Top Performers
Carl Drakes (Coppin State) was second in the men’s 200 meters (20.63) and third in the 100 meters (10.33) at the South Florida Invitational.
 
Halutie Hor (Coppin State) won the women’s 200 meters in 23.99 at the South Florida Invitational and came in second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.66.
 
Tayshaun Chisholm (Delaware State) won the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Bison Classic in 13.98.
 
Christopher Johnson (Delaware State) won the men’s shot put at the Bison Classic at 15.78 meters and was second in the discus at 39.54 meters.
 
Chidubem Okwudibonye (Delaware State) came in second in both the women’s 200 meters (25.15) and 400 meters (58.25) at the Bison Classic.
 
Kyle Fisher (Howard) won the men’s triple jump at the Bison Classic with a MEAC-best distance of 14.91 meters.
 
Mikayla Rodgers (Howard) tossed the hammer a MEAC-best 55.09 meters to finish second at the Bison Classic.
 
Deborah Adekayode (Morgan State) won the women’s long jump at the Duke Invitational with a distance of 5.26 meters.
 
John Purvis (Morgan State) was second in the men’s shot put at the Duke Invitational at 16.55 meters, while also setting a new personal best in the discus at 46.51 meters.
 
Kristopher Brown (South Carolina State) came in fourth in the men’s 200 meters with a 20.91 at the South Florida Invitational and helped the 4x100-meter relay team to a fifth-place finish.
 
Angelica Frederick (South Carolina State) set PRs in both the women’s 100 meters (11.86) and 200 meters (24.77) at the South Florida Invitational.
