MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 29, 2023North Carolina Central senior Donnell Carter and Norfolk State sophomore Gidion Sigei were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Co-Athletes of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola and Howard University senior Jessica Wright was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Howard University Howard University senior Mekhi Abbott was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while North Carolina Central junior Joidon Boddie earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
Carter (Sr., Waldorf, Md.) ran the fastest 400-meter dash time of his collegiate career, coming in second at the Raleigh Relays with a 46.91. It is currently the fastest time in the MEAC and ranks 42nd in the nation.
 
Sigei (So., Kericho, Kenya) ran a 29:34.41 in the men’s 10,000 meters, the fastest MEAC time ever in that event, at the Raleigh Relays. He currently ranks 46th in the nation in that event.
 
Wright (Sr., Durham, N.C.) won the women’s 400-meter dash at the Raleigh Relays, turning in a 52.76 that leads the MEAC and ranks third in the nation in that event.
 
Abbott (Sr., Monroe, N.J.) threw the javelin a MEAC-best 63.69 meters (208 feet, 11 inches) at the Raleigh Relays, placing eighth in the event and ranking 52nd in the nation.
 
Boddie (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) ranks 32nd in the nation in the women’s triple jump after turning in a fifth-place effort at the Raleigh Relays, leaping 12.56 meters (41 feet, 2.5 inches).
 
Other Top Performers
Latifa Ali (Coppin State) ran a 53.19 to win the women’s 400 meters at the Weems Baskin Relays, while also helping the 4x100-meter relay squad set a new school record.
 
Annalise Bond (Delaware State) cleared 3.40 meters in the women’s pole vault at the Weems Baskin Relays, finishing third.
 
Andre Carr, Jr. (Delaware State) was fifth in both the men’s 100-meter dash (10.66) and 4x100-meter relay (40.72) at the Weems Baskin Relays.
 
Catherine Glenn (Delaware State) recorded a pair of top-eight finishes at the Weems Baskin Relays.
 
Peter Kamanu (Delaware State) was second in the men’s pole vault at the Weems Baskin Relays at 4.40 meters.
 
Dylan Beard (Howard) won the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a 13.79 at the Raleigh Relays.
 
Mikayla Rodgers (Howard) was 27th in the women’s hammer throw at the Raleigh Relays with a MEAC-best mark of 53.19 meters.
 
Janoi Brown (Maryland Eastern Shore) ran a personal-best 21.12 to finish second in the men’s 200 meters at the Weems Baskin Relays.
 
Rachel Field (Morgan State) won the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Weems Baskin Relays, clocking in at 12:07.37.
 
Tia Jackson (Morgan State) won the women’s long jump invite at the Weems Baskin Relays at 5.95 meters.
 
Rodric Cox-Cooper II (Norfolk State) was ninth in the men’s triple jump at the Raleigh Relays at 14.34 meters.
 
Mercyline Kimaiyo (Norfolk State) set a new school record in the women’s 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays, clocking in at 36:39.16.
 
Leslie Young (Norfolk State) set a new PR in the women’s discus throw at the Raleigh Relays at 42.13 meters.
 
Lamont Victoria (North Carolina Central) tied for eighth in the men’s high jump at the Raleigh Relays, clearing 2.01 meters.

Dexter Ratliff (South Carolina State) was 14th in the men's hammer throw at the Weems Baskin Relays with a distance of 46.79 meters.
