Wright, Relay Squad Close Out Weekend with Victories at VT

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- 
Howard University men's and women's track & field programs closed out the weekend with a pair of victories at the Doc Hale VT Elite, hosted by Virginia Tech. Both wins came on the women's side, highlighted by 4x400-meter relay squad.
 
The team, consisting of All-American senior Jessica Wright and newcomers Kiya Lawson, Zoe turner and Aniya Woodruff, won the event by edging out ACC foe Clemson (3:39.13).
 
Individually, Wright also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a 24.18 time.

Norfolk State Women Win East Coast Classic

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --
The Norfolk State men's and women's indoor track & field teams prepared for next week's Kenneth Giles Invitational by winning the three-team field at the 60th annual East Coast Invitational on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
The Spartan women won the 13-event with 198.50 points, with Maryland Eastern Shore claiming second with 122.50 points. Voorhees College wrapped up the scoring in third with eight points. The men won the meet with 231 points.
 
Indya Richards won the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.75.

Anthony Franklin won the 60-meter dash, edging Carlson White for the top spot. He finished in 6.83, which was a facility record, while White clocked a time of 6.87.
 
Dwight Henry, Jonathan Richardson, Joshua Sutton and Antaeveon Payne all broke the facility record (8.40) in the 60-meter hurdles. Henry won the event in 8.14, while Richardson finished in 8.20. Sutton and Payne both crossed in 8.35.

Ali Wins 400, Coppin Men Set Serveal PR's in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. -- 
Latifa Ali won the 400-meter dash and helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a third-place finish at Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
A senior from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked an indoor personal-record 53.50 to win the 400. Ali's time is tops in the MEAC and the second-fastest in Coppin history, while ranking 26th in NCAA Division I this season. In the relay, Ali ran the opening leg and was followed by Shenelle Tomlinson, Destinee McLoud and Jahmel Wyatt to a time of 3:42.65, which is the second-fastest in the MEAC this season.

On the men's side, several Eagles set personal records -- led by NoxRoy Wright taking fifth in the 200-meter dash in a personal-record 21.27, shaving hundredths off his MEAC-leading time in the event. 
 
James Bell also recorded a top five performance, finishing fourth in the high jump after clearing 6' 6.75."

North Carolina Central Wins Nine Events at Richard Drake Invite
 
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- North Carolina Central's indoor track & field teams combined for nine event victories at the Richard Drake Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

NCCU freshmen Summer Washington and Laila Jackson each earned a pair of triumphs. Washington won the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.92 seconds, and Jackson was the first to cross the finish line in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:19.97. The duo then combined with sophomore Taylor Small and freshman Sydni Smith to win the women's 4x400-meter relay in 4:01.17.

Three other NCCU freshmen captured individual victories. Lamont Victoria remains unblemished in the men's high jump with his third first-place performance of the indoor season, leaping 2.05 meters (6-08.75) on Sunday. Tia Lucas cleared 1.65 meters (5-05.0) to win the women's high jump, while Emmanuel Paddyfote triumphed in the men's mile run with a time of 4:24.63.

Morgan State Continues Strong Season at Penn State
 
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Morgan State men's and women's indoor track & field teams traveled to Penn State to compete in the Sykes & Sabock Challenge held at Horace Ashenfelter III Track on Saturday.  
 
The Lady Bears would have 16 top-10 finishes, including two first place finishes by tia Jackson and Inara Shell.
 
Jackson would win the long jump event recording a personal-best leap of 19-10.75, thus breaking the school record. Morgan State now owns the top two marks in the conference in this event, with Shell's personal best mark from a week ago.

Hawks Have Solid Performances at East Coast Classic
 
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Maryland Eastern Shore track & field had a solid showing at the 60th annual East Coast Classic on Friday. In the three-team meet, several individuals took first and many more set personal records on the trip to Virginia.
 
On the men's side, the Hawks fared well in the 400 meters, with Ashane Beckford and Janoi Brown taking the one and two spots, as well as David Martin grabbing the top slot in the 800 meters.
 
Thrower James Perkins took first in the shot put with a 14.93-meter toss – the senior has come in the top five of each meet he has competed in this season, including setting personal records in both the shot and weight throw last weekend at the Boston University John Terrier Classic.

Hornets Notch Several top Performances at Scarlet Knights Open
