Wright Wins 60 in Record time at Fastrack
STSTEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Noxroy Wright won the 60-meter dash in record time, while Carl Drakes and James Bell
picked up wins as the Coppin State men's track & field team competed at the Fastrack National Qualifier on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility.
Wright matched a facility record with a time of 6.72 to win the 60 meters, and his time is also tied for the top time in the MEAC this season. The junior from Kingston, Jamaica edged out Bryan Sosoo, the current record holder who finished in 6.76, and Drakes, who took third in 6.77.
Former Eagles sprinter Joseph Amoah also ran a 6.72 in the event in 2019.
Drakes was impressive in his Coppin debut throughout the day, running a 6.80 in the 60m prelims before taking third in the final in 6.77. He also won the 200-meter dash in 21.36 and ranks third in the MEAC in both events behind Wright and Norfolk State's Kai Cole.

Byrd Breaks School Record at Windy City Invitational
CHICAGO, Ill. -- Howard University senior Jermanie Byrd closed out his successful weekend with a new school record at the Windy City Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
Byrd, the reigning MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, placed sixth overall in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking in at a new school benchmark of 21.55. The previous time was held by Wallace Spencer (2014).
On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay squad, consisting of All-American senior Jessica Wright and newcomers Kiya Lawson, Zoe Turner and Aniya Woodruff, took the bronze medal with a mark of 3:37.25.

Norfolk State Prepares for Conferrence Meet at NCAA Div. II Pre-National
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Gidion Sigei and Isaaac Haywood both picked up first place finishes as the Spartans completed their final meet prior to the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Sigei won the 3000-meter run with a season-best time of 8:28.50, before Haywood shined in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 50 feet, 6.25 inches.
The Spartans dominted the 3000 meters, as Sigei's teammate Brian Rotich crossed the finish line next with a season-best time of 8:36.92.
Sigei excelled in the mile as well, completing the event in 4:18.48.

Morgan State Competes in Final Meet Before MEACs
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Morgan State men's track and field teams wrapped their two-day competition at the ninth annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University. It marked the Bears' final indoor meet before heading to the MEAC Indoor Championships.
Senior Ali Bowens placed 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07 and posted a time of 22.38 in the 200-meter dash.

UMES Gets Final Indoor Prep at Fastrack National
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- It was a fine showing by the sprinters of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday at the Fasttrack Indoor Collegiate Qualifier at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility.
The standout for the Hawks on the day was Janoi Brown in the 400 meters, taking first place with a 47.75 performance, his first win of the season and second fastest time currently in the conference. Behind Brown was Ashane Beckford, taking third place with a 48.89s.
Brown and Beckford weren't the only two Hawks to place on the day, with Jahlahnee Watkins grabbing second place in the 200 meters at 21.41. More impressively for Watkins, it was his first collegiate 200-meter race and he was faced up with a crowd of over 100 finishers.
