Sigei, Sutton, Distance Runners Pace Spartans at VCU
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Joshua Sutton and Gidion Sigei earned first-place finishes as Norfolk State track & field opened 2023 at the VCU Indoor Invitational.
Sutton posted a mark of six feet, 5.5 inches to win the high jump, while teammate Terric Jones nabbed third with 6-3.5.
Norfolk State dominated the 3,000 meters, starting with Sigei's first-place finish in 8:35.73. Brian Rotich followed closely behind for second, clocking a time of 8:39.48.
Mercyline Kimaiyo and Kara Grant highlighted the women with first and second place finishes, respectively, in the 3,000 meters. Kimaiyo won the race with a time of 10:32.14, while Grant followed closely behind with a personal best of 10:39.38.

Howard Shines at VCU Invitational
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Howard University track & field shined at the VCU Invitational, hosted by the Rams over the weekend.
Overall, the Bison women returned to action in a big way, winning nine events on the day.
The 4x400 relay squad, consisting of seniors Jessica Wright and Dasia Wilson, sophomore Tiffani-Rae Pittman and newcomer Zoe Turner, capped off the afternoon, winning the race with a 3:48.85 time.
Elsewhere, senior thrower Nnamdi Olebara and sophomore runner Kaleb Berry picked up a pair of victories for the men. Olebara won the weight throw, tossing over 54-feet (16.52 meters), while Berry claimed victory in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:56.81.
