NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 18, 2023—Howard University junior Zachary Hawkins was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola and Howard University senior Jessica Wright was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central freshman Lamont Victoria was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Howard University graduate student Mikayla Rodgers earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Hawkins (Jr., Loganville, Ga.) finished second overall – and was the highest-finishing collegiate runner – in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Rod McCreary Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky, turning in a 7.95 – which is tied for the 47th-fastest time in the nation.
Wright (Sr., Durham, N.C.) ranks in the top 20 in two events nationally after the Rod McCreary Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky. She turned in a MEAC-best 54.13 to come in fourth in the 400 meters, which ranks her 16th in the nation, and she was on the 4x400-meter relay team that ran a MEAC-best 3:39.15, 14th fastest in the country.
Victoria (Fr., Prince George, Va.) is 12th nationally in the men’s high jump after winning the event this past weekend at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge, where he cleared 2.13 meters (6’11.75”) in his first collegiate meet.
Rodgers (Gr., South Huntington, N.Y.) took second overall in the women’s weight throw at the Rod McCreary Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky, recording a MEAC-best distance of 19.00 meters (62 feet, 4 inches), which currently ranks tied for the 50th-best mark in the nation.

James Bell (Coppin State) came in third in the men’s high jump at the HBCU Showcase, clearing 2.02 meters.
Noxroy Wright (Coppin State) was second in the men’s 400 meters at the HBCU Showcase, running a 49.73, while also finishing fifth in the 60 meters.
Jahmel Wyatt (Coppin State) won the women’s 500 meters at the HBCU Showcase, clocking in at 1:16.46.
Ishana Asinor (Morgan State) broke the program record in the women’s pole vault at the VMI Invitational, clearing 3.30 meters.
Alliayah Ottley (Morgan State) was third in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the VMI Invitational, turning in a time of 8.79.
Mercyline Kimaiyo (Norfolk State) ran a 5:08.25 to win the women’s mile at the HBCU Showcase.
Gidion Sigei (Norfolk State) set a personal best in the men’s mile, running a 4:15.55 to win the event at the HBCU Showcase.
Leslie Young (Norfolk State) won the women’s weight throw at the HBCU Showcase with a distance of 17.61 meters.
Joidon Boddie (North Carolina Central) posted a distance of 11.92 meters to win the women’s triple jump at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge.
Donnell Carter (North Carolina Central) won the men’s 400 meters at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge, running a 51.33.
