MEAC Commissioner Stills to Speak at Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Conference

NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 28, 2022 –Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Commissioner Sonja Stills is scheduled to speak on a gaming panel at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Conference on Friday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
 
Game Forward: Powering a 5G Future for Gaming will take place at 11 a.m.
 
The panel, presented by Verizon, will focus on leveraging recent public investments in broadband into opportunities for Black entrepreneurs and innovators. One of those aspects is esports, and the panel will highlight innovative programming at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country, as well as the Verizon Game Forward Scholarship for female students at HBCUs, which commits $1 million to increase female representation in gaming and STEM careers.
 
Joining Stills on the panel will be Ryan Johnson, CEO and founder of Cxmmunity; Tarrin Morgan, Morgan State esports coach; Kevin Fair, founder of iPlayGames; and Chelsea Cassarrubias, Morgan State student and president of the school’s esports program.
 
Verizon Director of External Affairs Michele Cober will moderate.
 
In addition to the panel discussion, there will be a games demonstration and audience participation.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is in its 52nd year of intercollegiate competition with the 2022-23 academic school year. Located in Norfolk, Va., the MEAC is made up of eight outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University.
