MEAC Title IX 50th Anniversary Page
With the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place Wednesday through Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will have three shots at national titles on the women's side, with Howard having qualified for the 4x400-meter relay, as well as Jessika Gbai qualifying in the 200 meters and Jessica Wright in the 400-meter hurdles.
Eight times, a MEAC female student-athlete has claimed NCAA gold at either the NCAA indoor or outdoor meet, starting in 2006 -- when Hampton University's Yvette Lewis won the NCAA title in the indoor triple jump. She added the outdoor triple jump championship to her resume at the 2007 championship.
Fellow Pirate Francena McCorory was a three-time NCAA champion, all in the 400 meters. She won the indoor title in 2009 and 2010 and added outdoor gold in 2010.
In 2019, North Carolina A&T State's Kayla White was NCAA champion in the indoor 200 meters, and two years later, Aggie Cambrea Sturgis won two gold medals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, winning both the 100 and 200 meters.
