NORFOLK, Va., June 2, 2022 – You’ll notice the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) taking a more prismatic theme in celebration of Pride Month.
The conference will supply a channel of networks and resources and best practices for allyship. Celebrating Pride Month is right in line with the conference’s newest initiatives to celebrate inclusivity and diversity since the hire of MEAC’s first female commissioner.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect as the celebratory month coincides with the 50
th anniversary of Title IX.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to show support and engage in dialogue with our student-athletes, administrators, and supporters,” MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills said. “In part of our planning, we researched and consulted with organizations and members of the LGBTQ+ community to ensure the right message was conveyed to a vulnerable community.”
In celebration, the MEAC will share educational posts via social media, including Pride-themed “Fun Friday” trivia via Instagram stories. The conference will also share supportive resources for enrolled students and the greater MEAC community. Additionally, fans will be treated to a behind-the-scenes view of three of the member institutions’ on-campus Pride clubs.
More details on the MEAC’s plans for Pride Month are forthcoming. For more information, please follow the MEAC on social media and visit
