N.C. Central's Jones a Winner at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
North Carolina Central senior Marvin Jones soared a personal-best 2.12 meters to earn first place in the men's high jump at the Penn Relays over the weekend.
 
Jones was the only competitor to leap at least 2.10 meters, a mark he has hit or cleared seven times in his career. The Hillsborough, N.C. native claimed his second victory in as many weeks, and his sixth event victory since the turn of the new year.

Additionally, the mark puts Jones in the top-20 in the NCAA East Region and the top-50 in the entire NCAA.

Norfolk State's Haywood Wins Triple Jump at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
Isaac Haywood won the college men's triple jump and both Norfolk State's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams advanced to the Championship of America finals for the Spartans over the weekend at the Penn Relays.

Haywood topped the field with best jump of 48 feet, 11 inches to win the triple jump at the oldest track meet in the United States, which was being held for the first time since 2019.

The Spartan women competed in the Virginia Grand Prix, setting a slew of personal bests and a new school record.

In the Spartans' last regular-season meet, Arieana Parker topped her own hammer throw school record. Her best mark was 159 feet, 1 inch, topping her own mark from last month's Duke Invitational.

Hornets Capture College Women's 4x200-Meter Title at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
The Delaware State women's 4x200-meter relay team captured a championship at the prestigious Penn Relays this past weekend.

The Hornet team of Khaliyah White, Lakendra Harpe, Dianna Koger and Aaliyah Robinson took home first place in the Penn Relays College Women's 4x200 with a time of 1:39.53, edging out Miami of Ohio (1:40.24) to claim the title.

Coppin State Has Strong Showing at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
In the final day of the historic Penn Relays on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field, Joseph Manu and Latifa Ali took part in the 100-meter dash, while the women's 4x400-meter relay set a school record.

Manu clocked a 10.31 to finish fourth overall, just .03 off the winning time, while Ali placed ninth in 11.73 after running a school-record of 11.45 in the prelims the day prior.

Ali also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay that finished fifth in the Championship of America in a school-record time of 3:35.70.

Morgan State's Jackson Places Fifth in Long Jump at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
Day 2 of the 126th Penn Relays, presented by Toyota, continued on Friday at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field, with several Lady Bears performing in the field events.
 
Tia Jackson placed fifth in the long jump college section, with a jump of 19-feet, 3.25 inches (5.87 meters). Meanwhile, Johnelle Johnson had a throw of 145-feet, 9.00 inches (44.44 meters) to place 13th in the discus throw college section.

On the men's side, Morgan State captured gold in both the College 4x200-meter realy and the College 4x100-meter relay.

Hawk Women Show Out at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
The Maryland Eastern Shore had a strong showing at the annual Penn Relays this past weekend, having a banner day in the women's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, along with the usual great jump by Atinuke Shittu in the triple jump.
 
The women's 4x100 team was the highlight for the Hawks, taking second in a crowded field with one of their best times of the season, running a 46.77. The team was young with sophomores Malea Sharps and Jazmine Thomas, as well as freshmen Spencer Settle and Mackenzi Evans.
