Back in the fall of 2021, when Dr/ Ingrid Wicker McCree announced that this would be her final year as Director of Athletics at North Carolina Central University, former NCCU Athletics staff members Ryne Toole, Kevin Wilson, Willie Jude, and Chris Jones contacted the university with an idea to pay tribute to the lasting impact McCree has made in her 28 years of service at NCCU and in the lives of the many people she has touched.
On Saturday, as hundreds of former student-athletes returned to campus for a letterwinners reunion, McCree was surprised during the spring football game with the presentation of a certificate to officially announce the establishment of the
Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund. The endowment was created to continue supporting the initiatives that she believes in the most.
"As we say thank you to Dr. McCree for everything she has given to NCCU, it is time for NCCU to give back to her," the public address announcer said during the presentation.
