Howard Shatters School Records at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas -- Howard University had several Bison selected to compete in the 94th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, where three school records were shattered in the four-day event at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
After reaching Saturday's 4x400-meter relay final with a qualifying time of 3:34.21, seniors Jessika Gbai, Ameenah Saalih, Ozioma Scott and Jessica Wright capped off the weekend, winning the event with a new school mark of 3:32.89. The four Bison broken their previous record set back at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Round (3:33.98).
Gbai and Wright also broke school records in their respective individual events.
On the men's side, graduate Dylan Beard and seniors Jermanie Byrd and Kameron Davis competed in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round, clocking in at 14.04, 14.09 and 14.15, respectively.

NCCU's High Jumper Jones Stays Hot
RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina Central track & field senior Marvin Jones soared 2.00 meters to finish sixth out of 37 total competitors in the men's high jump at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State.
For the Hillsborough, N.C., native, this is his fourth top-10 finish of the calendar year, including victories at the Champion College Team Challenge, Liberty Open, JDL Flat is Fast Invitational, and his gold medal at the MEAC Indoor Championships.

Jackson Wins Long Jump at Weems Baskin Invite
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Morgan State's Tia Jackson captured the long jump finals title with a leap of 19 feet, 5.25 inches (5.92 meters) at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
Jackson's performance was one of seven top-10 finishes over the weekend for the Lady Bears' track & field team.
For the men, Zackery Dillon turned in another strong performance for the Bears. The freshman took second place in the discus with a personal best toss of 53.28 meters – currently ranks No. 1 in the MEAC. He also took second place in the shot put with a mark of 16.80 meters (55 feet, 1.5 inches).
Sophomore John Purvis finished third place in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 48.22 meters. He added a fifth place finish in the discus (15.46 meters).

Rembert-Jett Wins 100 Meters at Weems Baskin Invite
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina State sophomore sprinter Waddell Rembert-Jett won the 100 meters against a strong field at the Weems Baskins Relays at the University of South Carolina Saturday with a time of 10.39, a personal best and the top mark in the MEAC this season.
Overall, head coach Jerod Wims' teams combined for 11 top-10 showings and set nine personal records at the meet.
Rembert-Jett also helped the Bulldogs to a first-place finish among collegiate teams in the 4x400-meter relay (Devin Brewington, Jaden Barker, rembert-Jett and Tyler Jeffers) with a clocking of 3:14.08, and a fifth-place showing in the 4x100-meter relay (Rembert-Jett, Jalon Kimbrough, Brewington and Jeffers in a time of 40.84.

Hammond Victorious, Ali Second at Weems Baskin Invite
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Coppin State's Jeff Hammond won the long jump in school-record fashion at the Weems Baskin Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina at Cregger Track.
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Hammond leaped 7.80 meters (25 feet, 7.25 inches) in his second attempt to best an elite field. Hammond's mark was wind-aided; otherwise, it would be good enough for ninth in the nation, and bested Coppin's old school record, held by Romaine Burke (24 feet, 4.50 inches) by nearly 15 inches, and is the third-best effort by a MEAC athlete over the last 10 years.
On the women's side, Latifa Ali finished second in the 100-meter dash in a photo finish. A junior from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 11.58 in the 100, just .01 off her own school record set last season. Ali was edged by Coastal Carolina's Kayla Sweeney by three-thousandths of a second for first.

Hawks Excel at Weems Baskin
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Several members of the Maryland Eastern Shore track & field team had career days at the annual Weems Baskin Invitational held by the University of South Carolina on Friday and Saturday.
Janoi Brown was the star for the Shore, dominating the 400 meters in his first race since taking fourth place at the MEAC Indoor Championships in 2020. The graduate student from Randallstown, Md., ran a 48.27 in the race, taking first by over a full second.
In the hurdles, Zachary Opon had a solid day, setting personal records in both the 110 meters and the 400 meters, with a 15.59 and a 56.29 in the races. His 110-meter performance is good for ninth in the MEAC and his 400-meter time good for fourth.
