School records Fall for Howard at Maryland Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Howard University senior thrower Diana Effiom broke her own record at the Maryland Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland.
The Dallas native shattered her previous mark (50.45 meters) with a new school record, tossing over 170 feet (51.97 meters). Overall, Effiom placed third overall in the event.
She also took part in the discus, claiming second place (41.08 meters).
On the men's side, junior thrower Christopher Bratcher reset the school's shot put record at the Maryland Invitational; Bratcher threw nearly 52 feet (15.76 meters), eclipsing the previous record held by Rajae Gayle in 2014 (15.26 meters). Overall, he placed fourth in the event.

Rantin Leads Morgan State at Maryland Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Morgan State University men's track & field team opened the outdoor season by putting together some top performances at the Maryland Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland. The Bears captured three individual titles and 12 top-5 performances at Kehoe Track.
On the track, Keon Rantin swept the podium in two sprint events. He raced to a 11.00 finish to capture the 100m, and recorded a time of 21.95 to capture the 200m.
In the field events, Zackery Dillon took home first place in the discus with a toss of 51.18m (167'11") and recorded a toss of 15.90m (52-2) to place third in the shot put. John Purvis added a fifth place finish in the shot put (15.64m) and eighth place finish in the hammer throw (37.94m).

Coppin State Opens Outdoor Season at Maryland Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Randy Serville and Josheph Manu led the Coppin State track & field team in its outdoor season opener at the Maryland Invitational on a very windy Saturday afternoon at Kehoe Track.
Serville took second overall, and first among collegiate athletes, in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.85.
Manu clocked a 22.01 in the 200-meter dash to take second in that event as well.
For the women, Latifa Ali
and Kimani Alphonse took second overall in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively. Ali earned the silver in the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.28, just ahead of third-place finisher and teammate Cathryn Lane in 57.40. Alphonse was the top Eagles finisher in the 800 meters in 2:18.83

South Carolina State Shines at Georgia Tech
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The South Carolina State track & field teams had their second consecutive impressive outing this past weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech.
Coach Jerod Wims's teams won one event and combined for 11 top-five performances in the 15-team field that included teams from several Power 5 conferences, among them the SEC and ACC.
S.C. State performers also set seven personal records and produced some of the best showings in the past 10 seasons.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team (Princess Vigilance, Taryn Thorn, Ra'Necia Brown and Maya Smith) captured first place with a time of 46.35, the fastest women's time at the university since 2015; while the 4x400-meter relay team (Thorn, Brown, Jasmaine Donovan and Debrielle Williams) was third with a clocking of 3:44.90, the best time since the 2010 campaign.
Thorn also finished 10
th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.25, a personal record.
