NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 9, 2022—Coppin State senior Joseph Manu was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, and Norfolk State sophomore Indya Richards was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State sophomore Camren Wynder-Hill was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Morgan State junior Johnelle Johnson earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Manu (Sr., Accra, Ghana) ran the MEAC’s fastest time, a 6.66, in winning the 60 meters at the East Coast Invitational. That time is currently tied for the 24th-fastest in the nation. Manu is also one of the conference’s best in the 200 meters after turning in a 21.37 this past weekend, ranking third in the MEAC.
Richards (So., Rochester, N.Y.) won the 60-meter hurdles at the East Coast Invitational, running a personal-best and facility-record 8.33. That time is currently the fastest in the MEAC and tied for 40th-fastest in the nation.
Wynder-Hill (So., Norfolk, Va.) set the MEAC’s best mark in the heptathlon, winning the event at the East Coast Invitational with 3,963 points. He won four of the seven events, including the long jump and the pole vault.
Johnson (Jr., Clarendon, Jamaica) set a new personal best in winning the shot put at the East Coast Invitational, tossing the implement a MEAC-best 13.58 meters (44 feet, 6.75 inches) to give the Bears their lone event title of the weekend. She also finished fourth in the weight throw.
Other Top Performers
Latifa Ali (Coppin State) was the top collegiate runner in the 400 meters, finishing third with a 54.55, while also helping the 4x400-meter relay team finish second.
Tayshaun Chisholm (Delaware State) ran an 8.02 to win the 60-meter hurdles at the Liberty Open.
Kyra Lyles (Delaware State) was fourth in the 400 meters and fifth in the 4x400-meter relay at the Liberty Open.
Eric Brown, Jr. (Howard) was third in both the long jump and the triple jump at the Richard Drake Invite.
Kennedy Lewis (Howard) won the 200 meters at the Richard Drake Invite with a time of 24.78.
Lamar Davis (Morgan State) PR’d in the long jump at the East Coast Invitational, leaping 7.36 meters to win the event.
Aaliyah Harris (Morgan State) was second in the 60 meters (7.72) and third in the 200 meters (24.94) at the East Coast Invitational.
Kai Cole (Norfolk State) won the 200 meters (21.30) and came in second in the 60 meters (6.73) at the East Coast Invitational.
Arieana Parker (Norfolk State) won the weight throw at the East Coast Invitational with a mark of 17.81 meters.
Marvin Jones (North Carolina Central) won the high jump at the Liberty Open with a mark of 2.06 meters.
Zinzili Kelley (North Carolina Central) recorded top-10 finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the Liberty Open.
