Coppin State's Manu Matches Own School Record

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- 
Joseph Manu won the 60-meter dash and took third in the 200-meter dash at the East Coast Invitational to lead the Coppin State men's track & field team who sent squads to both Virginia Beach and the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday.
 
Manu matched his own school record in the 60 meters, clocking a 6.66 in the finals to take home the gold. A native of Accra, Ghana, Manu also took bronze in the 200 meters in 21.37, with Mauriel Carty taking sixth in the event in 22.17.

The women also set a school record, this one in the 4x400-meter relay at the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational. The combination of Cathryn Lane, Latifa Ali, Kimani Alphonse and Shenelle Tomlinson clocked a 3:41.04 to finish second overall, but they were the top collegiate team. 

Coppin's time broke the school's old record by over three full seconds that stood for over nine years and stands second in the MEAC.

Norfolk State Teams Strong at East Coast Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- 
The quartet of Camren Wynder-Hill, Kai Cole, Trequan Barnes and regan Kimtai all brought home wins on Saturday to highlight another strong weekend for Norfolk State men's track & field at the East Coast Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Wynder-Hill won the heptathlon with a personal record of 3,963 points. He placed first in four of the seven events in the competition. Jahquan Christopher and Joshua Sutton were second and third in the event, respectively.

Cole and Anthony Franklin both posted times of 21.30 seconds in the 200 meters, which broke the previous facility record. 

For the women, the Spartans brought home victories in the hurdles, middle distance, long distance, throws and multi-events, showcasing their depth.

Arieana Parker kicked things off with a win in the weight throw on Friday night, tossing a season-best 58 feet, 5.25 inches to edge out freshman teammate Leslie Young, who PRed (57-11) in finished as runner-up.

Effiom, Lewis Lead Howard at the Richard Drake Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --
The Howard University men's and women's track & field teams closed out the weekend at the inaugural Richard Drake Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University. Several Bison had outstanding performances, including seniors Diana Effiom and Kennedy Lewis.
 
In the field, Effiom won the weight throw after tossing nearly 55 feet (16.66 meters).
 
On the track, Lewis finished first in the 200-meter dash with a 24.78 mark.
 
On the men's side, third-year Bison Cameron Kee earned bronze in the 400-meter dash with a 50.51 time, while newcomer Eric Brown reached the men's 60-meter hurdles final after registering an 8.73 mark during prelims. In the final, he took third overall with an 8.54 time.

Bears Cap trip to Virginia in East Coast Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- 
The Morgan State University men's track & field team finished up its trip to Virginia Beach and the East Coast Invitational on Saturday, compiling strong performances across various event groups.
 
The Bears finished with four individual titles and 13 top-5 performances at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
In the field events, Malik Brown captured gold in the pole vault with a mark of 3.45 meters (11-3.75). Lamar Davis cleared 7.36 meters (24-1.75) on his first attempt to win the long jump competition, while Derick Robinson finished in third place with a leap of 7.17 meters (23-6.25).

Joshua Belinga recorded a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.34 meters (43-9.25).
 
Zackery Dillon recorded a toss of 16.63 meters to place first in the shot put, while teammate John Purvis finished with a second with a toss of 56.32. Purvis also took third in the weight throw with a mark of 14.12 meters.

North Carolina Central Shines at Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- 
The North Carolina Central track & field teams competes in the Liberty University Open on Saturday and brought home 13 top-10 finishes, including a victory in the men's high jump by senior Marvin Jones.
 
Six out of the eight top-10 finishes by the Eagles' field teams were recorded by jumpers. Jones soared 2.06 meters to win the men's high jump for the second meet in a row, while freshman Brenden Finger placed eighth in the same event with a 1.86-meter mark.

For the women, senior Zinzili Kelley stayed busy, earning eighth and 10th in the long jump and triple jump with 5.40-meter and 11.04-meter leaps. Sophomore Joidon Boddie and senior Micah Fulton placed seventh and eighth in the triple jump with 11.44-meter and 11.40-meter distances, respectively.
 
In the throwing competitions, senior Xavier Lenear placed ninth in the men's weight throw with a 14.64-meter mark, while sophomore Saniah Oneil earned 10th place in the women's shot put with a 9.97-meter toss.

Packed Liberty Open a Wake-Up Call for UMES

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- 
Following two consistent meets early into the indoor season, the Liberty Open served as a sign for the Maryland Eastern Shore track & field squads that improvement is the only option.
 
Facing a tough field of 28 colleges and universities, plus a slew of individual competitors, the Hawks return to Princess Anne with nothing but hard work ahead of them.

Once agai, Jahlahnee Watkins was an impact member for the Hawks, taking third in the 400 meters with a 49.01-second run. Recruited as a jumper, the junior from the Bronx has exploded in 2022 as one of the key runners for the Shore.
