NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 7, 2022—Norfolk State junior Regan Kimtai was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola and Howard University junior Kaya-Rae Dunbar were selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Howard University sophomore Chase Drewery was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Howard University senior Ja’Tae Joyner earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Kimtai (Jr., Eldoret, Kenya) currently ranks 12th in the nation in the men’s mile run after turning in a 4:13.29 this past weekend at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, finishing seventh overall and third among collegiate runners.
Dunbar (Jr., Burtonsville, Md.) won the 60-meter hurdles at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge this past weekend, turning in a MEAC-best time of 8.42 – which currently ranks her sixth in the nation.
Drewery (So., Waldorf, Md.) won the triple jump with a MEAC-best mark of 14.80 meters (48 feet, 6.75 inches) at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, and he currently sits tied for 11th in all of Div. I with that mark.
Joyner (Sr., Bowie, Md.) ranks fourth in the nation in the women’s triple jump after winning the event this past weekend at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, leaping a MEAC-best and school-record 12.58 meters (41 feet, 3.25 inches).
Other Top Performers
Ava Larkin (Delaware State) won the 1,000 meters at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge with a 3:12.46, six seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Tyrell Martin (Delaware State) posted top fives in the shot put (second, 15.50m) and the weight throw (fifth, 15.37m) at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge.
Leah Powell (Delaware State) won the women’s high jump at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, clearing 1.45 meters.
Jaden Shelton (Delaware State) won the 60-meter hurdles for his first collegiate win at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, running an 8.02 that ranks 16th in the nation.
Tia Jackson (Morgan State) won both the 60-meter dash (7.71) and the long jump (a meet-record 5.93 meters) at the Navy Invitational.
Kara Grant (Norfolk State) ran a 5:15.17 mile at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, coming in 21st.
