Howard Kicks Off New Track Season with Two School Records

ANNAPOLIS, Md. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- 
Howard University senior Ja'Tae Joyner and graduate student Mikayla Rogers opened their campaign with a bang by setting new school records in the triple jump and weight throw, respectively.
 
Rogers was the shining star for the Bison at the Navy Invitational, while Joyner was one of several tremendous performances at Harvard for the HBCU & Ivy Challenge. Joyner leaped 12.58 meters (41'3") at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge to enter her name in the record books, while Rogers shattered the previous school record with a toss of 18.47 meters (60'6") in Annapolis at the Navy Invitational.

On the men's side, reigning MEAC triple jump champion Chase Drewery led the way in Cambridge, winning the event by leaping nearly 49 feet (14.80 meters).

Norfolk State Distance Runners Strong in Opener

BOSTON, Mass. -- 
Regan Kimtai took seventh place in the men's mile, posting a time of 4:13.29, to lead Norfolk State at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Invitational. It was his fastest mile since he recorded a 4:09.72 at the 2020 Carolina Challenge, while competing for North Carolina A&T.
 
Gidion Sigei, fresh off an induvial title at the MEAC Cross Country Championships, made his track debut in a Spartan uniform by breaking a school record that had been in place for over 15 years, finishing 112th in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:17:52.

For the women, Kara Grant took 21st place in the mile, completing the race in 5:15.57.

Delaware State Opens Season at HBCU & Ivy Challenge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- 
The Delaware State men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened the 2022-23 season at the HBCU & Ivy League Challenge over the weekend.

As a team, the Delaware State men finished in first place with 109.5 total points, while the women came in fourth place with a total of 41 points.

Morgan State Men Open Season at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- 
The Morgan State men's track & field team opened up competition in the 2022-23 season at he annual Navy Invitational I in Annapolis, Md. The Bears notched six total top-5 all-time performances at Wesley A. Brown Field House. 

Junior Derick Robinson placed seventh in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 6.98. Junior Emmanuel Ibeh (50.55) and junior Tarique Gooden (51.58) finished ninth and 10th place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.

On the women's side, junior Tia Jackson set the Navy Invitational Meet record in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.99 meters to break the old mark of 5.93 meters, which was set by Kirsten Andrews on Feb. 17, 2007.
 
On the track, Jackson also captured gold in the 60-meter dash, finishing in a time of 7.63.
