NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 26, 2022—Norfolk State junior Kai Cole was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, and Howard senior Jessica Wright was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Coppin State junior Jeff Hammondwas named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Howard freshman Nikayla Fitzgerald earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Cole (Jr., Alexandria, Va.) was strong in the Penn State National, turning in a winning effort in the 60 meters and coming in second in the 200 meters. He ran a personal-best 6.69 in the 60 meters, tying for 30th in the nation, and he turned in a 21.38 in the 200 meters.
Wright (Sr., Durham, N.C.) is tied for 24th in the nation in the 400 meters after winning the event at the Wesley Brown Invitational this past weekend, clocking in at a MEAC-best 54.45.
Hammond (Jr., Kumasi, Ghana) ranks tied for 14th in the nation in the long jump after winning the event this past weekend at the Carolina Challenge, leaping a MEAC-best 7.65 meters (25 feet, 1.25 inches).
Fitzgerald (Fr., Kyle, Texas) leaped 6.05 meters (19’10.25”), a MEAC best, in the long jump at the Wesley Brown Invitational to win the event. She currently ranks tied for 29th in the nation in the long jump.

Joseph Manu (Coppin State) ran a 6.69 to win the 60-meter dash at the Carolina Challenge and finished seventh in the 200 meters.
Tayshaun Chisholm (Delaware State) won the 60-meter hurdles at the Villanova Invitational with a time of 8.04.
Chase Drewery (Howard) is second in the MEAC in the triple jump after leaping 14.87 meters to win the event at the Wesley Brown Invitational.
Indya Richards (Norfolk State) set a PR in winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.41 at the Penn State National Open, while also coming in second in the long jump with a leap of 5.70 meters.
Camren Wynder-Hill (Norfolk State) set a PR in the long jump, leaping 7.20 meters to win the event at the Penn State National Open.
Marvin Jones (North Carolina Central) won the high jump at the JDL Flat is Fast Invitational with a leap of 2.08 meters.
Jada Banks (South Carolina State) set a new school record in the 3,000 meters, running a MEAC-best 10:21.07 in the Carolina Challenge.
Waddell Rembert-Jett (South Carolina State) ran a personal-best 6.77 in the 60 meters and a personal-best 21.76 in the 200 meters at the Carolina Challenge.
