Howard's Williams Leads the Way With Record-Setting Performance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Jan. 7, 2022 – Howard University senior runner Gavin Williams led the way at the Wagner College Invitational, hosted by the Seahawks, with a record-setting performance.
 
The Delaware native topped his previous mark in the 3000-meter run, registering a new school benchmark of 8:50.63 while finishing eighth overall in the event. Williams set the old record in January 2020 (8:52.25).
 
Seniors Jermanie Byrd, Kameron Davis and Darian Clyburn dominated the 60-meter hurdles, each making past the preliminary rounds. In the finals, Davis placed second overall (7.99) while Byrd and Clyburn claimed fourth (8.03) and eighth (8.26), respectively.
 
Georgia products Ashton Daniel and Zachary Hawkins took part in the 200-meter dash where they earned second (22.02) and seventh (22.77), respectively. Daniel also competed in the 60-meter dash, placing seventh with a 6.98 mark.
 
In the field, newcomer Chase Drewery leaped over 46 feet (14.29 meters) in the triple jump, landing him second place.
