Sturgis Breaks Faciliy Record, NCAT Sends Nine to Eugene
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was ladies night at the University of North Florida. And like their male counterparts, the North Carolina A&T women's outdoor track and field team came to the party looking to smash records.
On Day 4 of the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on Saturday, sophomore Cambrea Sturgis led the Aggies pathway to the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships to be held in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12.
N.C. A&T will send nine ladies to compete in six different events.
Sturgis will be one of three Lady Aggies representing N.C. A&T in three different events at NCAA nationals. Sturgis posted the fastest qualifying time in the women's 100-meter quarterfinal, winning her heat in 10.92.

Howard 4x400 Punches Ticket to Eugene
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Howard University women's 4x400-meter relay squad capped off Memorial Day weekend punching their ticket to Eugene, Ore., at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary on Saturday inside Hodges Stadium, on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Seniors Jessika Gbai, Ameenah Saalih and Ozioma Scott, along with junior Jessica Wright, represented Bison Nation in the event where they established a new school benchmark with the fastest non-automatic qualifying time of 3:33.71.
The MEAC champions shattered the previous 35-year-old record (3:33.98), set back in 1986.

Grant, Bissah Conclude Outdoor Season at NCAA East Prelim
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Norfolk State's Kiara Grant and Martha Bissah saw their outdoor seasons come to an end on Saturday night in the quarterfinal round at the NCAA East Preliminary at the University of North Florida.
Grant posted a time of 11.44 seconds in the 100 meters, good for a 19th-place tie out of the 24 runners who competed. Bissah, a redshirt senior, clocked a time of 2:04.23 in the 800 meters, her best of the season, and finished 14th out of 24 in her final collegiate track race.
Grant, who has won five All-America honors in her career, including first-team honors in the 60 meters earlier this indoor season, has one year of eligibility remaining. She was named state indoor track athlete of the year this year, as well.
