Aggie Men Go on Record-Breaking Conquest at NCAA East Prelim

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
The North Carolina A&T State men's outdoor track & field 4x400-meter relay team did it again. And that's only a fraction of the story from Friday night at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium during the 2021 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round.

The Aggie men qualified eight more athletes for the 2021 NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 9-12, in Eugene, Ore. They will send nine men to the nationals after junior long jumper Brandon Hicklin qualified on Wednesday.

N.C. A&T's nine Aggies will be competing in nine different events. That is a new school record, topping the old mark from 2019, when the Aggies qualified seven male athletes in seven various events.

That alone is worthy of praise. But the way the Aggie men did it, is worthy of reverence.

Coppin's Amoah Qualifies for NCAAs in Three Events

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
Coppin State's Joseph Amoah qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both the 100- and 200-meter dash, while also helping the 4x100-meter relay team advance as well with his performances at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday night at Hodges Stadium.

A senior from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah ran the second leg of the 4x100 to open the night and led the Eagles to a season-best time of 39.57, finishing fourth in their heat and 12th overall to secure a spot in Eugene. Joseph Manu ran the opening leg, followed by Amoah, Malik John and Abayie Opuni in what was the second-fastest time in school history.

Amoah won his heat of the 100 meters in 10.06 to automatically qualify for the National Championships, which are set for June 9-12. His time was his second-fastest of the season as his heat's top four finishers were separated by just three-hundredths of a second.

In the 200 meters, Amoah's heat was once again arguably the tightest as he took second in a season-best 20.32. Amoah finished just a hundredth of a second behind the leader as the top four finishers were once again separated by just three-hundredths of a second

FAMU's Scott is Eugene-Bound

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
Jaylyn Scott has never run the 400-meter hurdles faster than he did in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA East Preliminary Track & Field Championships (May 28), and the performance paid off -- he's going to the national championships.

The first heat pit Scott against student-athletes from Power 5 institutions like  Auburn, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Duke, and North Carolina, and the junior represented Florida A&M with a third-place finish of 50.36.

The time shaved milliseconds off his previous personal record (50.71) while also earning him a trip to Eugene, Ore.
