Darius, Wright Win Big at Darke Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- 
It was an excellent day for North Carolina A&T State's men's and women's outdoor sprinters at the historic Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday at Drake Stadium. 

Junior Symone Darius had an outstanding weekend. She won two events, including the women's 100 meters and the 4x400-meter relay. Junior Tavarius Wright also had an impressive outing at Drake University. He won the men's 100 meters and helped the Aggies finish a close second in the 4x100. 

The Aggies also had a win in the men's 110-meter hurdles as junior Rasheem Brown took the prize. The women's 4x100 team of sophomores Cambrea Sturgis and Kamaya Debose-Epps, junior Delecia McDuffie and freshman Jonah Ross also won at Drake. 

The men's 4x400 teams found victory on Saturday as well.

NCAT's James Earns Another Shot Put Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
The North Carolina A&T State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams hosted their second meet of the season at Irwin Belk Track on Saturday, earning two first-place victories at the 2021 Aggie Classic.
 
Senior thrower Loren James continued her amazing season by winning the women's shot put. Senior Cedric McGriff earned the Aggies' other victory as he took first place in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
 
James secured her third victory of the season in the shot put. On Saturday, James tossed the shot put 47-feet, 8 ½-inches to win the event by almost two feet over East Carolina's Naadiya Faison. James, the two-time reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) female Field Athlete of the Week, has competed in the shot put six times this season with three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and one fourth-place finish.
 
James also took second place in the women's hammer throw. Her best toss landed at 164-feet, 2-inches. Liberty's Grace Artis won the event going away with a throw of 173-feet, 2-inches.

Coppin' Ali Wins Two Races at Aggie Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
Coppin State's Latifa Ali won the 200-meter and 400-meter dash races at the Aggie Classic hosted by North Carolina A&T State this weekend at Irwin Belk Track.
 
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali took the 200 meters in an unofficial time of 24.0 and the 400-meter dash in 54.92. Kimani Alphonse followed Ali in the 200 meters in 24.6 to finish fourth, while Shenelle Tomlinson place sixth in 24.9.

On the men's side, Abayie Opuni took second in the 200-meter dash in 21.5 and Amadou Ba clocked a 1:58.20 in the 800 meters

Stanford Leads Howard at Aggie Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
Despite the inclement weather, senior standout Destiny Stanford put on another record-setting performance at the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State, shattering her own mark in the 1,500-meter run.
 
The New Jersey native shaved over three seconds off her previous record, posting a 4:31.72 time. With her efforts, Stanford placed second overall in the event. Junior Melanie White also competed in the 1500-meter run and took fourth overall, clocking in at 4:37.68.
 
In the 800-meter run, Stanford earned the top spot with a 2:11.79 mark.
 
Senior Ozioma Scott finished runner-up in the 400-meter run (55.49) while newcomer Kaya-Rae Dunbar claimed second in the 100-meter hurdles, winning her heat with a 13.94 time.

Morgan State Wins Three Titles at Aggie Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
Morgan State freshman Ishana Asinor captured the pole vault title during Saturday's Aggie Classic at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State.

Asinor finished with a height of 9-feet-8 inches to win the Lady Bears' lone title of the day.

Kobe-Jordan Rhooms and Morgan State's 4x100 meter relay team had a pair of first-place performances at the same meet, giving the Bears three overall gold medals.

The Bears earned two first-place performances and four individual top-five performances.
