NORFOLK, Va., April 28, 2021—
North Carolina A&T State senior Tavarius Wright was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Coppin State sophomore Latifa Ali was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Morgan State senior Kobe-Jordan Rhooms was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State senior Loren James was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Wright (Sr., Olive Branch, Miss.) won the 100 meters at the Drake Relays, running a 10.37, while also helping the 4x100-meter relay team take silver with a 39.15.
Ali (So., Kumasi, Ghana) won both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at the Aggie Classic, running a 24.01 in the 200 and a 54.72 in the 400. Her time in the 400 meters is currently the third-fastest in the conference.
Rhooms (Sr., Montego Bay, Jamaica) won the triple jump this past weekend at the Aggie Classic, leaping a season-best 14.53 meters (47 feet, 8 inches), which is currently the second-best mark in the conference.
James (Sr., Baton Rouge, La.) picked up her third win in the shot put this season at the Aggie Classic, turning in a mark of 14.54 meters (47 feet, 8.5 inches), while also coming in second in the hammer throw at 50.04 meters (164 feet, 2 inches).
Other Top Performers
Ezra Montiero (Howard) was fifth in the both the hammer throw – school-record 50.22 meters (164 feet, 9 inches) – and the javelin throw – 41.49 meters (136 feet, 1 inch) – at the Aggie Classic.
Destiny Stanford (Howard) won the 800 meters in 2:11.79 at the Aggie Classic and came in second in the 1,500 meters with a school-record 4:31.52.
Ishana Asinor (Morgan State) won the pole vault at the Aggie Classic with a mark of 2.95 meters (9 feet, 8 inches).
Kimani Davis (Morgan State) ran a 1:06.40 in the 400-meter hurdles, coming in second at the Aggie Classic.
Symone Darius (North Carolina A&T State) won the 100 meters (11.45) and the 4x100-meter relay (3:37.30) at the Drake Relays.
