NCAT's James Wins Shot Put at UCS Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- 
Senior thrower Loren James put together a career day for what is turning out to be a career season. The reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Field Athlete of the Week had a first-place finish and had two personal bests on Saturday at the USC Open hosted by the University of South Carolina at Shelia and Morris Cregger Track.    

The men's and women's track & field teams had seven top-5 finishes on Saturday, but James had the only win. 

James won the women's shot put with a personal-best throw of 52-feet, 8 ¾-inches. James's throw gives her the top throw in the MEAC this season. James won the MEAC shot put title in 2018 before finishing second in 2019.

In the women's hammer throw, James threw a personal-best 173-feet to finish seventh. 

Thus far, it has been an outstanding season for James, who earned her second win of the season in the women's shot put. She also has three second-place finishes and five top-5 finishes.

South Carolina State Sets Six PRs at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- 
The South Carolina State track & field teams continued their strong season this past Saturday at the USC Open. Overall, S.C. State had five top-five showings, set six personal records and improved its standing in the MEAC rankings.

In a strong field, sophomore Dexter Ratliff finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 49.30 meters (161-09 ft.), moving to the top spot in the event in the MEAC; junior Tyler Jeffers was fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.13 and climbed to third in the MEAC.

Freshman Devin Brewington was fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 47.30, moving to seventh in the MEAC rankings; while the 4x400-meter relay team of Jeffers, Brewington, Waddell Rembert-Jett and Matron Thornton, claimed second in the event, moving to third in the MEAC.

In other action, freshman Jada Banks improved on her time in the 1,500-meter run with a clocking of 4:44.18, a personal record, which moves her to second-best all time in the event at S.C. State. Banks is also second all-time in the 5000 meters at the university.

Morgan State Competes, Rose Wins High Jump at JMU Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- 
The Morgan State men's track & field team registered some solid performances at the James Madison Invitational meet on Saturday at Sentara Park.
 
The Bears earned four first place performances and 12 individual top 5 performances.

For the women, Miazziah Rose gave the Bears their lone event title of the weekend, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches), which matches her season best.
 
On the track, freshman sprinter Adrian Holley recorded top marks for the Bears in the 100-meter finals. He recorded a personal best time of 10.64 while breaking the tape before VMI's Jordin Poindexter (10.70) and George Mason's Aman Bivens (10.74).

Delaware State Competes in Hopkins/Loyola Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. -- 
Delaware State brought just a small contingent of athletes to the Hopkins/Loyola Track & Field Invitational.

Safarya Cheadle placed first in the 100 meters at 12.38 seconds; she finished .04 seconds ahead of teammate Aaliyah Robinson, who finished second. Robinson also placed first in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 25.37 seconds. Cheadle's 25.94 was good enough for fourth place.

On the men's side, Malachi Little won the 200 meters at 21.83, while Thomas Kalieta, Jr. was sixth at 22.15.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Kalieta, Little, Julian Brown and Nathanael Guywon with a time of 3:20.34.
